I am assuming this is another model that was released from Asus. They have them in stock at Microcenter.com Ordered one two nights ago and called to check on stock and they said they had a few left. My CC was charged so it looks like it will be shipping out soon. I had an order in at a certain website and canceled when I found out microcenter had them.
The only difference in the x2 is that it has the 500gb hdd and the blue ray drive. So I bought a hdd from newegg last night and bam, A1!
-
Wow, for $1499??? I don't even need the second hard drive. Guess maybe i'll put in my order today.
Nevermind.. Their charging Sales tax because they have a store in NYC. and I live in upstate NY. Nearest store is over 500 miles away and I still get charged...
Unless there is a 8% coupon laying around that I can get rid of the tax with(doesn't look like they take coupons anyways. -
Nice find - just checked and my local store had 4 in stock. Ordered and there will be one waiting for me when they open today.
-
Be aware that I'm sure it won't have the HDD caddy, just like the X1.

Awesome! ComgratZ! Would you mind banging out some pics when you get it?also interested in knowing what warranty comes with the X2. Is there a drive caddy for the empty hdd slot? You know, the whole shebang. Thanks in advance.
-
Yep - would love to post all of the info. It will probably be around 9 or 10 this evening before I get a chance to post it, but I will give the full details.
I probably won't do a lot of benchmarking - I primarily need a laptop that I will be able to run a SharePoint 2010 VM on, and the VM itself recommends 6-8 gb of RAM, so this beast looked to be the best bang for the buck, espcecially considering I can ramp it up to 16 gb of RAM to run more VM's as I need to. -
-
Hmm interesting.
I was just going by the configuration on xoticpc.com which allows you to configure the A1/A2 up to 16 gb of RAM. Also, quite a few other manufactures that have the i7-720qm are allowing for upgrades to 16gb (Lenvo w510, HP EliteBook, HP ENVY 15). I was under the impression that it was only the i5 and i7 620 procs that only supported 8.
8 gb should get me by for a while anyway, but if I decide that I want to run an entire server farm within VM's on this laptop, I will probably need all 16. (SQL Server, Domain Controller, and SharePoint Server). I realize this is very specific to the type of work that I plan to do on the laptop and won't be the case for a majority of folks.
Anyway for the price, even 8gb will be better than what I have now. -

Yup, I stand corrected, it seems:
-
I would love to know the info regarding the HDD caddy. I will be pissed if it does not have it.
-
-
Pissed engaged!
-
I just saw this post. I did the same thing. Bought the X2 at Microcenter and ordered an ssd from newegg. I ahven't opened it up, but it sounds like their's no caddy. I guess I'm going to have to buy that double sided tape or velcro strips.
-
Does it say what warranty comes with this machine on the outside of the box ?...
The X1 people are reporting they get 2 years warranty just like A1/2 models but since this is a Brick and Mortar machine it might only have 1 year warranty ?... -
Yeah it's just one year. Microcenter sells it's own warranty but it's prohibitively expensive.
-
...
-
The one thing I've noticed is that the Multiplier rests either at 20 or 7 depending on power4gear. I've seen people benchmarking with 13 but I can't seem to find the right settings to get that number.
-
How would you compare the two screens (SXPS RGB and the G73) and overall comfort / build?
Im thinking of getting the G73JH-X2 instead of the SXPS 1645.
Thanks in advance. -
I thought the warranties were manufacturer warranties. Can someone open up there x2 and check if the hdd caddy is there?
-
well...tired of the whole best buy watch...getting one of these with next day shipping. Hopefully it is indeed in stock
basically the a-1 minus a hard drive, backpack and mouse
saves a couple hundred bucks, and i'll want to add a SSD primary drive at a later date anyway -
wooty mcwootens!
Estimated ship date of 3/1/2010
will be opening with tears of joy on the 2nd of March -
I was kinda annoyed with newegg jacking up the price (not that I can blame them), so this was a nice surprise. I was thinking I wouldn't find one until April, so thanks to whoever pointed out Microcenter had them. Never would have thought to look there.
Microcenter in Cambridge, MA had one left after I picked up mine. I'm not sure if that was the demo unit though.
Don't need a backpack, got a mouse, and to be honest having even 500GB of storage is more than enough on a laptop. Still having a hard time getting use to the keyboard, but the screen is very very nice. -
Just picked mine up - I am running through the setup right now.
It appears to have a 1 year accidental damage warranty, however the card states that is I register within 60 days, I get an additional year for free. The laptop itself is beautiful, love the build quality, screen looks nice, keyboard is not bad. Very surprised at how much I like it, as I have been very partial to my two year old MacBook Pro.
It does not include the caddy for the second hdd, which is a disappointment, but I will get over it. Actually just finished loading as I typed this, and it recognizes the full 8 gb of RAM, which I have read some people are having a problem with. It is incredibly quiet as well, and I am impressed that they included the recovery disks, I didn't think anyone did that anymore.
Attached are a couple of pics, took some of the disks because that excited me, the warranty info from the box, the specs from the box, the blu-ray drive, and the inside. Figured the rest was the same as what everyone else has posted so I didn't bother with that.Attached Files:

I think this qualifies as the best deal to be had on the g73 provided you want a blu ray drive...A-1's will be running 1700 at least most places it appears and I don't think you could argue a backpack, mouse and 2nd hard drive are really worth $200 to most people interested in this laptop to begin with -
For $200:
-1 extra year of warranty
-targus backpack
-razer mouse
-extra 500GB drive <-- this is half the $200 right there. -
I bought my X2 at micro center today as well, I am loving it. Especially since it is my first ever laptop and my desktop is like 7 years old... haha.
I'm "buying" a bunch of games right now... heh. -
Does microcenter offer some sort of coupons or anything? The sales tax is the only thing stopping me from ordering this.
-
So the x2 does not come with the bag, mouse and hdd caddy.
I can live with that. My main reason for buying it from microcenter would be the fact that I am not waiting til April to get my laptop. I bought a second hdd so looks like I will have to get my velcro out until I can get my second hdd caddy. -
Does it come with 1333 DDR3 as well?, i need to get another one for a friend abroad,
only pb is taxes, so the deal is a bit less good that the $1429 x1 from newegg when it started. -
Plus a caddy...!!
-
Yes while all that is worth the $200. You have to look at how long it will take you to get the laptop. Pre ordering now is taking until mid april to be filled.
-
Just checked the BIOS - it is listing DDR3 1333.
-
Going in a couple of hours to pick mine up! WIN FREAKING WIN! -
-
I just bought it from the MicroCenter 1520(with the mail) + NOOOOOOOOOOO TAX!!!Hopefully will have it on Friday, unfortunelly no review guys, i have dial-up and no games for now, just buying EMPIRE total war for now...
-
Just grabbed this too.. Anyone know how to cancel pre-order for XoticPC? Think I need to talk to someone
-
I drove down to Chicago from Milwaukee last night to pick this up. Very happy to have one that I can call my own.
-
Jeez. Some of you are quite obsessed -
Surprisingly it wasn't that bad. 175 miles round trip. I figured it was worth it to go and pick it up and pay the sales tax instead of having it shipped. It gave me the rest of the weekend to get it setup. Normally during the week, I don't have the time to devote to a computer like I can on the weekends.
The funny thing is I was able to order a X1 for work that they paid for, and now I have a X2 that I paid for myself. So technically, I have two G73's. -
Yea I am waiting for mine to be shipped to me from microcenter. Can't wait!
-
I suppose 175mi round trip isn't TOO bad. lol
-
Mine would be like a 500 mile round trip to the nearest one to me. Was hoping they would have some sort of coupon that would equal the cost of the sales tax.
-
I wonder how many Microcenter has in stock? The site says they are in stock and I'm tempted to order one overnight and get it tuesday
My luck I'd order one and then tomorrow it would say out of stock and I'd be waiting. I am on the line about getting this thing, even have my old laptop ready to sell, decisions, decisions...
-
Ira -
Thanks, Ira. The only store close (3 hrs to KS City) did not have any. Next closest was about 7 hrs (14 round trip) so I ordered online with overnight shipping and I hope they do ship right away rather than make me wait for the next shipment to come in. It does not say back order, or pre order or anything like that. I ordered 2 of them, one for me and another for my brother.
I haven't got any email confirmation yet so I guess I shall see in the morning. Wish me luck! -
Me neither, no order confirmation and was weird the way that bought too, don't even need registration but now i have it and it is what matters(will have it soon)
-
I drove about 150 miles round trip yesterday to pick one up, was totally worth it as I didn't have to wait until mid-March or April to get my A2 that I ordered. Didn't really need the BR drive, but oh well, can't be too picky
Btw, for those keeping track, mine had the 1333mhz RAM. -
