I'm going to be ordering for the Asus G73jw in a few days and figuring out where to get it from. For the most, the usual places indicated on here (powernotebooks, xoticpc, gentech etc.) pretty much have it for $1745 or so.

However, I've come across a deal on TigerDirect.com for $1499. This looks to be the same config as the more expensive model, but am I missing something? (perhaps this doesnt have the 2 year global warranty? or ...? )

    Link to the TigerDirect offer:
    ASUS G73JW-XT1 Laptop Computer - Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray Player/DVDRW, 17.3 Full HD, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black at TigerDirect.com

Yeah I'm about to order the JH-x3 from TigerDirect. The two G73's they have are pretty comparable to the one's at xoticpc, so I doubt you're comparing apples to apples. The xt's just don't come with the backpack and the mouse. The JW-Xt1 is very tempting. The i7-740, blue ray, and M1333 memory are very nice. But I really want the 5870 so there you go. :p

I'm still debating going with xotic so I can have them do the thermal compound and add the purple lighting. Mostly I want the 30 days to try this thing out. Xotic gives you 15 days from the day it shipped to the day it's returned. LOL you get 1 day to try it out. Wow.

I like the idea of just spending $1500 for a powerful laptop. Don't really want to spend much more.

Just ordered the G73JH-A2 from xoticpc. Paid extra for the purple lights, thermal paste, and Intil 6300 wireless card. Also upgraded the ram to 1333mhz and picked up an extra power adapter. Brought the total up to $1850.

Can't wait to get rid of this loud AMD64 & Nvidia 6800GT. Not to mention play some decent games (although BF1942 is still the best).

Should have a good 2 weeks to try it out. If it's no good, goes back with no restocking fee.

Here's the return policy notice I got at the end of the purchase:

To return products, you must, within 15 calendar days (30 Days for Sager Units) of your original ship date, call XOTIC PC's Sales Department toll-free at 1-877-289-9684 to receive a Return Merchandise Authorization Number.

Customer must use whatever means is necessary to ensure that product is returned to and received by XOTIC PC within 20 Calendar Days) of the Date of SHIPPING (original ship date). In the event that XOTIC PC approves a return outside of the above quoted return time a 15% restocking fee will be applied.

Looking at the specs I see it has one less HDD (500GB) and all else looks the same but I wonder if its a typo.

the X models always have something downgraded from the A models, usually the screen resolution or cpu speed. Things like that.

Man I miss the Bing cashback offer. I remember when I bought my X3 JH from TD. It cost me around $1250 with the 15.3% cashback.

On comparing the TigerDirect XT1 with the standard A1, the only differences I see are indeed:
    • 500GB HDD (iso 1TB)
    • no backpack and mouse
I'm okay with the 500GB HDD (as I was planning to slot in a SSD later on anyways) and can do without the mouse and backpack. I also see there is a banner proclaiming the Asus 2 year global warranty and Accidental Protection Damage (This is extremely important to me as I'll be taking this and using it in Europe).
For the most, I was going to buy the standard $1745 config (maybe with a 6200 wireless card), so this does seem to work well.

So it does look like the XT1 only lacks the items above. I wonder how they are managing it to be about $250 cheaper with just these things dropped.
I hope they're not replacing some of the parts with cheaper components (e.g. a lower quality display panel).

Interesting offer but doesnt work for me, as it does not have a BD player.

@ericdawg, hope the G73JH-A2 is everything you wanted and more

Blu-ray is not a problem. You can buy on and replace the DVDRW drive easily.

Just stay away from these: CT10N, Hitachi-LG(HL) CT10N Blue Ray Player DVD Burner

They don't play Blu-ray movies w/o a very specific firmware that is almost impossible to source. Other than that, I've had no issue adding drives. Even managed to find a BD-RE for under $100 and it works great.

    Cheers,

Sweet! I hadn't thought of replacing the standard DVD player with a BD one, but that makes it just about perfect. It even does have a 1 year global warranty, which I reckon should fit nicely enough.

I think I'm gonna get this config and in time upgrade with a SSD, more RAM and the BD player/writer.

P.S. Do you know any place where I can order a BD player or even writer?

They ran out of them over the weekend. I talked with a Tiger salesman Firday and he said they sold 34 last week, and had 16 left so I should be ok to order on Monday. Wrong.

I ended up paying about $400 more but got the extra HD, BluRay, oh and the red backlit keyboard. Ouch, but I know that buying from Xotic Pc that if I have any issues they will be there to take care of it.
