I just recently bought the Asus G74 laptop, with Nvidia 3D glasses. Running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I am really struggling with the 3D, as sometimes it work, and sometimes not. I have updated to the latest BIOS so the ROG button (Next to Power Button) Enables/Disables 3D Mode. And latest Nvidia drivers (301.42)

Today I played Battlefield 3 and by pressing the 3D button, it look like there was a layer of red colour over the screen, by pressing 3D button again, it went back to normal.

I have a sample movie on my desktop (when played its double video, next to each other) but that doesnt work either. On the 3d vision preview pack it worked, and stopped working now.

I noticed when 3D is enabled, the small green light above the screen is on, and it works.

    1) Is there a EASY way to test my 3D? How can I fix it?

    2) I have tried to watch some 3D movies, but it doesnt seem to work. Is there a certain 3D "type" ONLY which I can view?

Your help and advice would be grateful!

Check nVidia Control Panel to see if "Asus 3d Vision Laptop" (or something like that) is selected in the 3D settings of driver, otherwise the Glasses will not work properly.

Could you be more specific please?

    There is
    3D Settings
    Adjust image settings with preview
    Manage 3D Settings
    Set PhysX Configuration

    and further down

    Stereoscopic 3D
    Set up stereoscopic 3D
    View compatibilty with games

And when I run Test stereoscopic 3D, the blurry NVDIA video plays, but 3D is not enabled and doesnt work!

    Thank you for your time.

If you're trying to use your G74 in 3D mode for the first time, consider configuring it by doing these steps:

    1. Re-charge the 3D glasses before using (should take about 2-3 hours charging via USB)

    2. Right-click monitor screen. Go to nVidia Control Panel > Display > Change Resolution:
Check if native resolution is set at 1920x1080. No need to change the "60 Hz refresh rate".
nVidia will reconfigure itself to 120 Hz when in 3D mode. "Color Depth" is at 32 bit.

    3. Still in nVidia Control Panel > Stereoscopic 3D > Setup Stereoscopic 3D > Run Setup Wizard
(Don't tick "Enable Stereoscopic 3D" yet, it will enable itself later.)

    4. Now, you're in Setup NVIDIA 3D Vision, click next. It will ask you to turn on your glasses.
Follow the remaining steps. (A green light should be seen at the IR emitter found beside the G74 camera,
indicating 3D mode is turned on.) If the laptop has fully recognized your 3D glasses, click "Finish".

    5. Go back to nVidia Control Panel > Stereoscopic 3D > Setup Stereoscopic 3D > Enable Stereoscopic 3D >Apply.
"Depth" is at default, "Stereoscopic 3D display type" is at "ASUS 3D vision laptop", click "Test stereoscopic 3D".
(DON'T tick "hide stereoscopic 3D effects when game starts".) A dialog box will pop-up.
Set "refresh rate" to 120 Hz, tick "Apply this refresh rate to all games", click "Launch Test Application".
Now, you should see the built-in nVidia 3D demo. When satisfied, exit by pressing the escape button.

If all goes well, you should be able watch and/or play in 3D mode.

In my experience, the ROG button only enables/disables 3D during in-game.

Michael, you're a star! That was exactly what I was looking for, an easy step-by-step guide. Everything is set up now and works perfect. I set my refresh rate to 100Hz though as on 120Hz there is too much flickering.

One thing that I still can't do though, is watch 3D movies? Is there only certain types of movies I can watch? I have 2 different types of 3D movies, one is the "double picture" one, and the other the "blurry" type. My 3D glasses does not activate automatically, do I have to press something to detect it is a 3D movie?

    Thank you

You will need to use certain players that can play in 3d mode. Usually those players will have a 3D option in the UI, also 3D Vision has to be enabled at same time.

If i recall correctly PowerDVD should be able to and Roxio CinePlayer aswell.

Thank you, I googled my question and eventually found software that works for me. I purchased Stereoscopic player and it plays all of my 3D movies.

Thank you guys, all of my questions have been answered :) Thread Closed.
