Just about a week ago my g74sx has been noisy. It is noisy on boot up and stays noisy while idle and active. I checked my CPU Fan and it's speed is 2600RPM and my GPU Fan seems to stay 0% idle while it still is noisy. So that leaves it to be either the CPU or the rear cooling fans.
I contacted Asus support and they instructed me to update my bios to 203 which I did and it didn't solve the problem.
Any suggestions to solve this issue is greatly appreciated.

    Hi mbk17,

Sorry to hear about your difficulty. Here are the likely causes:

    1. Fans are going bad
    2. Something is loose, near the fan/heatsink
    3. Something is caught inside the fan, or is causing the fan to rub
    4. Air exhaust or intake is blocked, causing the fans to rattle

The G74SX uses blower style fans. There are several photos posted
in the main FAQ sticky. My advice would be to see if you can determine
what is causing the noise. If the fans are making a grinding noise, it
is likely #3. If the fans are rattling, its likely #1 or #4. If there is a
metallic quality to the noise, it could be #2. You can try lowering/raising
the fan speed, to see if the problem follows the RPMs. You can also try
blowing canned air into the exhaust and intake vents. If all else fails, and
it's still under warranty, you should send it in for repair. If it is out of
warranty, and you're handy with a screwdriver, you can take it apart, and
see if you can find the culprit :)

    Good luck,

    Sir Robin

    Thanks for the reply.
The sound is rattling for sure, the Asus rep on the phone said it could take 2 weeks for the whole process -.-
Seeing as I need my laptop for work I cannot do that.
I purchased it at staples and have warranty with them so hopefully they can look into it.

    thanks again Sir Robin
