hey guys, i've purchased a ASUS G74SX-A1 from xoticpc but i'm having some problems with it. during normal usage, the laptop will suddenly go into blue screen of death, showing that the computer has encountered some problems and needs to be restarted to prevent damaging the parts. and this has happened almost once everyday. i'm not sure of what triggered this, because it can occur when i'm transferring files from my HDD/ipod, it can occur when i'm installing programs, and it even occurred when i wasn't doing anything with the com, but just leaving is overnight and waking up to realise that it has restarted and was at the log in screen.

may i know if there're any solutions to this problem?

    my specs are: Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM, 14GB - DDR3 1333MHz RAM, 500GB Seagate XT 7200RPM HDD, 750GB 7200RPM HDD, 4X Blu-Ray Reader

these were the error logs that i had. sorry it's darn long but yeah i'm not good at this so i just wanna show you guys all the info that i can offer. as much as possible i'd like to solve this problem without a clean install, unless there're really no other solutions. thanks guys!

First its better you contact Xotic pc, or let them see this thread (theyre active here as well) since i guess youre covered with warranty.

As the bsod itself, i cant really help. Are you on stock asus OS or you installed a fresh one? Alot of user had BSODS with Asus OS, resovled only by reinstalling a fresh copy of Win 7 (without using asus recovery disc or partition) and installing drivers manually.

I advice to fresh install the os, try to get a fresh SP1 Home premium iso and use your legit key printed below the laptop.

    Try running memtest86+

If that turns up no errors after a few passes, it could be a driver issue. So try reinstalling your graphics drivers.

Hi arthurccm928 sorry to hear you're having problems with your new G74SX.

As AllurGroceries suggested first thing i would do is try memtest86+ as your bluescreens seem to be random first thing I would suspect is RAM. If that doesn't help or if you'd like to get some help with it please do get ahold of us and we'll be happy to help.

You need a cd-r or a blank usb stick: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Once you've made the boot cd or usb, hitting Esc right after you power on the machine will get you to the boot menu where you can select the appropriate device.

Just to be clear - have you installed or tweaked your drivers at all since you got the machine? Random BSODs can be driver related. Usually they are bad memory.

Are you running any antivirus (trend micro or whatever comes standard these days)? If so try disabling it and see if the problem continues.

I would start with completely uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics drivers, and then clean install if you still see the problem after that.

Since you bought it from xotic, they will probably be able to take care of you if you purchased it recently. If you're past their grace period you can send it in for an RMA

I had BSOD issues for the LONGEST time. And they were totally random.

I did memtest and everything was fine...but it wasn't for a long time until i actually tested 1 stick at a time. I did 10 passes with both sticks in and it was fine.

But then i did 10 passes for each stick (had one removed from the computer) and one of them came up with like 390 errors on memtest lol. And the other one was completely okay.

Bought some new RAM and i havent had a problem since. And now i have 8GB instead of 4GB :D :D :D

I own a G74 for now 2 days and it worked non-stop and I haven't experienced any BOSD. I did a clean install too. If you don't have any memory issues, you may start thinking about RMA. You could try to remove drivers one by one to see if you can pin down the problem, but that may become longer than to RMA it...

got back my G74 from asus royal club, they told me it was a HDD problem and they've fixed it.

BUT BSOD STILL HAPPENS. holy .
and from my personal evaluation, i doubt that the problem is with HDD cuz, most of the BSODs that've personally encountered, happened when the computer is underload (multi-tasking, playing MW3 etc). is there anything i can do now? or just send my laptop back to asus royal club and request for replacement of GPU/CPU since my RMA period from xoticpc was already expired.
