Hi im new to this forum and recently came across some framerate issus
In game after installing the new nvidia drivers I'm experiencing random frame drops in game's such as sleeping dogs, deus ex human revolution and darksiders. I would also like to know if over-clocking my system or using software such as msi afterburner would void my warranty. it would be really helpful to know if there's a fix.
    Specs:
    Asus G74sx
    Intel Core i7
    Nvidia GTX 560m 3gb vram
    16 gb ram

    Overclocking would not void warranty.

You can use Throttlestop (you can find it here in the forum) and a set all Clock and Chipset mod to 100%, multiplier at "turbo". Then you will find all the checkboxes below, uncheck all of them and hit "save" and "turn on"

You can use "MSI afterburner" to overclock your GTX 560M, however don't go blindly testing other people's OC. Use them as a baseline and find your own max stable clock. It will also help a bit to update your drivers (geforce drivers).

Last thing is to make sure Power 4 Gear is set at "high performance" and you're plugged in.

I recently Updated My drivers to the 301 version and I still get these frame drops while plugged in and power4gear in high performance in regards to over clocking thanks for the info and im not sure if i should try it yet, i would only want to use it as a last resort for the frame drops.

Throttlestop isn't overclocking actually, it's an tweak tool :)

What game are you running and what settings are you using

Oh cool and im running Sleeping dogs on Low but I tried it on medium and high and i get about 60fps until it has like a little lag spike and these spikes can span from 5seconds to about a minute and ill check throttlestop now and see if i can solve the problem through that. = )

80C is fine, it's the true temperature your i7 should be running at. The reason ThrottleStop stopped the frame lag is because you disabled BD PROCHOT of your CPU, it's a known issue on the sandy bridge CPUs, where the CPU throttles down to 798MHz when the temperature wasn't even reaching 65C. And this is fixed in the new generation Ivy bridge CPUs.

When the BD PROCHOT is disabled, all CPU heat protection (clock throttling, the one that's giving you headaches) except the thermal shutdown feature will be turned off, but 80C is perfectly fine so no worries, however it's advised that you watch your temperature every once in a while to make sure nothing goes wrong.

Can you post a screenshot of your ThrottleStop setting?

Some laptops use a variety of methods to throttle performance. A ThrottleStop screen shot as well as a log file while gaming is valuable information when trying to figure out what is going on. You can Copy and Paste the ThrottleStop log file data to Pastebin.com and then just post a link here so I can have a look. Remember to exit ThrottleStop when finished gaming so all of the data is written to the log file and turn on GPU monitoring in the Options window.
