    Good luck.

And for the love of god just do a dry run first. You should be able to set it on a desk and just connect everything to the mobo without the shell and the clevo heatsink can just be but on for a test. If all goes well( Get boot and windows login) then mode the s... out of t he shell :) you do not want to kill 2 notebooks with one stone :)

Soon I had a Clevo 170, from the time we collect the information necessary connected via external connectors fit into the housing G75, I'm almost sure that all the connections to the motherboard can move, the biggest problem is the Battery and power, from what I know, nobody has done MB swap for the housing, but if someone managed to do water cooling Alienware is all possible!

Water cooling a notebook is something that I have been thinking about for quite a long time. It will for sure reduce battery life drastically because of the pump and the notebook would be a bit more bulky but some brand could give a try. I think Toshiba tried a long time ago and don't know what happened, I think it did not work out, maybe because of the technology of that time.

Actually my friend tested the gtx 560m on his asus g73sw , and a chinese guy tested an hd 6970m on his asus g73sw. He used an asus g73jh heatsink for the upgrade. if you want il ask if my friend is willing to sell it.
    thanks

Uh, so you are not upgrading a G75. You are just putting a Clevo P170EM into a G75 shell...

    Is that right?

I asked Asus if they could do so by changing the 660m in a G75 for Asus official 670m. That misunderstood my question and I never tried asking again but sounds to me that if you take your G75 to a official Asus tech center they can do such thing for you (at a price). I also asked if they could take my 660m as a part of the payment for the 670m but did not get an answer because again, they misunderstood my question as if I were asking them if it did void my warranty to do such operation by myself. Nevertheless, I see great potential in a 660m... I think that if someone is willing to put his hand on the vbios and raise voltages to achieve higher frequencies in both core and memory (or just core), this card would be able to reach at least 35% more performance than stock. My 660m stays cool as hell, even when abusing in max overclock all the time (+135 core, +625 memory).

    GTX670m - Approximately US $310.38
    GTX660m - US $275.00

It will be very good that they take my 660m as a part of the payment for the 670m but I don't think so that it possible((
I'm also try overclock (+135 core, +610 memory) but sometimes it become unstable and more than 67 deg)
That why i think to upgrade up to 670m ...or by new laptop))

If you want more, get a 680M laptop, not a 670M replacement.

That would be a much wiser choice, if you are willing to give up your G75... (I'm not giving up my G75 by no meas, this notebook is just incredible for using CAD or CATIA programs by just throwing an SSD and nothing more). I'm an engineering student and this notebook is just all and even more of a fighting machine I need.

Hi guys, for the guys that owns a g73jw there is an upgrade from the 460m gtx to the 660m gtx :D thanks to Svl7 the LINK IS HERE [Guide] G73JW - upgrade with Nvidia GTX 660m I think its very possible that we can have a 680m gtx on this laptop, well physically at least I don't know if the card actually it gonna show any video maybe with a mod BIOS. I still waiting for hackness to show his results if he could upgrade his g73jw to the powerful 680m gtx that would be an epic upgrade for g73 users.

This isn't just plug and play, it requires heatsink modding and I lack the tools to do it. So I probably won't be doing this until I have a chance that someone mod it for me.

I've a weird question... I'm waiting for my new G75, and I got it with GPU 670m because here there's no way to get one with 660m. As I'm mostly interested on using it for my job than for gaming, I'd like to know if it's possible to "DOWNGRADE" to 660m (less heat and a bit more battery duration) and, if yes, where to buy the 660m and the approx price.

I once wondered the same thing but to upgrade instead of a downgrade. I sent an email to Asus and they misunderstood my question and answered me incorrectly. Still I think it is possible, by taking you notebook to a local Asus center or any other partner of Asus so that they can switch the GPU for you. The only way to change it is that way since no one knows it a non Asus card even posts. As regards your 670m, I don't know if the can take it as part of the payment for the GPU swapping, I've asked them that too but they also misunderstood it.
As regards you usage, I use it too mainly for CATIA (CAD) and other engineering applications, and I can tell you that my 660m with an SSD works incredible.

    Where are you from ?

    I'm from Italy.
I was looking since long for a notebook with good calculation power and fair graphics... but, besides some custom (and expensive) ones, here you can mostly get gaming laptops OR traveling laptops. I searched for the 660m model, but it's not available here.
Battery is not so important for me, even if an our more wouldn't be bad, sometimes I use my laptop on site, but I'm mostly worried about the warming.
By now I've got an HP Pavillion DV 9000 since some years, does a good job but it's becoming old and it warms a lot under stress.
I've choosen G75 , besides cpu power, because of good cooling reviews and the ability to clean the fans without dismantling it completely.
On pavillion, to reach fan I've got to dismantle it up to cpu... really not a good design choice :) I've got a couple of cats and a dog in my house, and cleaning the fans each 3-4 monthes became a must :)

BTW, I'm using laptop mostly for CAD and for coding... I need a laptop because I work half the time home and half at office, and I like to have exactly the same setup in both sites.

Anyways, I'll use it like it is up to warranty time, then I'll try to replace the GPU with 660m, If I can get one for few bucks.

    Max

p.s.: if you want to swap your 660m with my 670m, you're wellcome, if you're not too far away :)

I don't think the 670m will get hot while using CAD applications, in fact, my 660m stays below 56C while using Catia. The only concern seems to be the weight. You said you would be using it 'on site', if that means a construction site or sort of, I would not recommend a G75, maybe a G55. This notebook is quite large (still surprisingly comfortable to carry) but not particularly agile while handling it.

    Hope it helps.

Well, 660m is known to be quite less power hungry (and so less hot) than 670m....
The weight isn't a big problem, my old laptop is 3.4 Kg and 17' too.... I don't take it often to site, but it can be done.
Just a pity that I found just the glare screen model.... the matte one seems to have disappeared from italian market :-(
After 6-7 years with a glare HP screen I'd have liked to try a matte one.

    Ciao

Sorry for being honest but think it is very stupid and rude to create a popular thread which became 20+ pages one and leave the first post same short and lame as it is now AND created by just one question!

If I were an OP I would edited first post and make it summarised for all thread. Because at this moment people who come here have to either reag whole threador ask same question about updated status.

Is it so hard to the OP edit a first post where he writes about what was discovered as possible upgrade options and what is not at this moment etc.
It is kinda WEIRED to read on the FIRS Page from some users who claimes that GPU and even CPU are soldered to the mobo. And it is on the First site in the Google Search of «G75 GPU upgrade»!!!

If someone says they have done something but refuses to give information, then don't take what they say at face value.

As to "clocking" I am referring to overclocking.

I was just wondering if anyone have gor an idea of the release date of asus' next gaming laptop. would it be worth it to get a G75 in 3 months, or would it be wiser to wait for the next one?
