Thanks for this info. I will go ahead and order the Intel now. As this laptop is less than a year old, I am assuming that all of you modders have voided your warranties but going into the guts! Don't like doing that myself but I think I will have to be really careful and put everything back into its original state it if ever does come to that.... don't know if they will be able to tell. They do this for a living so I am sure they will be able to.
Here goes nuttin
-
Yes, it does void the warranty. However, when I repasted mine (1st time opened), the sticker over the CPU heatsink screws that says "warranty void if broken" was already broken... so go figure. -

It does require a total dismantling of the machine.
-
I do agree that it's harder than on say Clevos. But then again, if that's the tradeoff for the silent operation, I'll take it over easy parts access any day.
It's worth pointing out that this does most likely void your warranty. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yeah it does void you warranty (asus have explicitly stated this).
Yes I even managed to miss the module when I double checked an image it is on the top which does require the system to reach this state:

Proceed with caution everyone. I am assuming there are no stickers on the module to remove that may give it away?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I don't believe so but it's always a little bit delicate when taking it to that level of dismantling.
-
I am seriously in two minds now !

If you need more detailed instructions, you can take a look at my pics on DIY keyboard backlight color mod + partial disassembly pics. - just look at steps 2, 3 and 4 for step-by-step instructions on how to get to the WiFi card. You should easily be able to then unplug the antenna cables, undo the 2 screws holding the card and replace it.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
At least it is a standard card and they don't have a white/blacklist in the bios.
-
Also it does not void the warranty unless the warranty voided stickers is removed on the CPU heatsink or something damaged. -
My son just bought the JX and loves it. No problems other than I can't pry it out of his fingers for a spin during his college holiday break.
He saw me removing my added on copper blocks from my Clevo W110ER and thought they would be a great way to rid gaming heat. I showed him before and after screen shots of HWiNFO64 showing no change in temps using the fuzzy donut benchmark. I travel and was concerned the blocks getting knocked loose. I asked son why any heat getting pulled off copper blocks, then going thru fans did not amount to anything gained or lost?
Anyway the JX runs plenty cool and looks it too! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
it's just that there is not much airflow inside the system so the copper just stores the heat and cant get rid of it.

Hi everyone,
I unfortunately spilled a glass of water on the keyboard and ever since this happened, some of the keys don't work any more (10%), some work fine, others work but give wrong letters, and even sometime 2 wrong letters when hitting one key. Keyboard is still lit despite the disaster. Looking at the disassembly photos, I'm not sure I will have an easy access to where the water was spilled to clean it if needed so I'm wondering if I should go that way. Even if I could easilly do that, would I have to remove the keys first? I have removed one (without disassembling the G750) to see how things looked, putting the key back was challenging so the idea of removing all keys sounds like a bad idea. Any suggestions? Would love to avoid having to buy a new keyboard module ($195) if possible.
Many thanks -

Depending on where you got the computer many do come with a 1yr accidental damage protection plan which does covers spills. However you do have to register that within 30days of you getting the computer. If you did and its within a year I'd contact Asus to get it fixed.
The places where it does not include accidental damage are:
BestBuy USA (In-store and Online)
Office Max (In-store and Online)
Staples USA (In-store and Online)
Sears (In-store and Online)
Costco Wholesale (In-store and Online)
Office Depot (In-store and Online)
Wal-Mart (In-Store and Online)
Online Auction sites or Peer-to-Peer sales -
Hey Guy, was just wondering how you liked your new machines. Leaning very heavily on a G750 series myself, and wanted some feedback. Dont see another forum on these here;hence asking. TYVM in advance

It's a lovely machine for those who don't intend to open it up, great cooling and performance.
-
curious is it possible to get a "rubber" cover for the keyboard area--mechanics have them for grease/dirst purposes.
Is it true that the Asus solders their processors on? and thanks for the info. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The G750 do have soldered processors.
I am unaware of covers for the asus keyboard. -
Hi,
I have bougth a g750jw a month ago and i would like to know if it is normal that one cooler looks like work harder than the other, in my case the processor's cooler than the gpu's cooler, that happen in idle or in intensive use like playing or watching videos. Always looks like processor's cooler works more...
Any comment about it? hehe
Thanks. -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Thats perfectly normal and depends on what you're doing. If running programs that a CPU intensive but does not require power from the GPU only the CPU side will get hot and vice versa.

Hi.
In my case almost always my procesor's fan works harder, and for you?
Thanks -
The processor's fan is also smaller, so it may be louder because it can't cool down as efficiently as the larger GPU fan at the same rpms. That being said, it could be that your CPU doesn't have a good paste job. Without some temperature measurements under load, we won't be able to say much.

Ops ram sinks on the heat pipes are interesting. I mean is that really going to provide even a ~1C difference in temps? I'd like to see a test with those, and without them on lol
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The problem is adding metal without airflow from outside going over it and then leaving the casing means it increases the thermal capacity of the system (ability to store heat) but not cooling ability.

Does anyone know if there's a warrenty void label attached underneath the keyboard?
My plan is to buy a g750jx on my vacation to the us, and then replace the keyboard to my local language. Then if i need an RMA i will simply reinstall the us keyboard, which will not work if i rip a warrenty label. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can just use the software to apply your local language to the US keyboard, the markings would be wrong but if like me you touch type it would not mean anything.
-
And is that just a setting in windows, perhaps there is a way to make a shourtcut or macro key which switches the keyboard language between two languages?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can make an icon in the bottom right to do that within windows.
-
Hi,
Is there any way to clean the keyboard or specific keys?
I spilled some tea over it and some keys do not work anymore. Everything else works fine though.
Thx alot -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yeah that will likely need replacement.
-
What would I do if I didnt have warranty? How much would it cost to replace the keyboard?
thx for your quick answer -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can try ebay but the Asus repair centre would quote you a cost if it's not covered.

Hi chaps,
I'm wondering if anyone who has done the disassembly could help me with a question. I need to get to the power jack which I think is damaged on my G750JH and I'm wondering how far through the disassembly this would require. Would it even require complete removal of the keyboard, or perhaps just lifting the keyboard but leaving the ribbon cables attached would reveal it? Also does anyone know what the power jack looks like on the inside? The pics above are great but don't focus on this part, ideally I'm hoping for a zoomed in and angled view of the power jack connected to the motherboard so I can try to judge if there might be some connection damage that I could repair or not before I start opening things up.
I ask because my G750 repeatedly jumps between battery and AC. This happened on my previous G73SW too and it went in for RMA three times for the same issue, each time the report that came back indicated that they had replaced the entire motherboard! I eventually got fed up and asked for a complete replacement and was told that if it failed a fourth time while in warranty (2 years) then a full replacement or other solution would be offered. As you might guess the power jack again failed but 2 months after the warranty expired. As a result of this I bought a G750 and had to dump my otherwise perfectly fine and just over 2yr old G73.
Due to the above I am reluctant to go through the RMA process again if there is an alternate option since it is likely it will involve repeatedly shipping the unit off and lengthy waits only to receive a fix that lasts another 3 months until eventually the warranty runs out and then the flawed design becomes my problem rather than ASUS's...
Thanks for any help you can give me! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
For soldering work I would advise totally removing the motherboard.
-
Does somebody know what type of ram chips they use on the GTX 860/870/880m? or any 800 series gpu's? Especially the 880m which I got.
If it's Samsung and product number ends with HC03 it is capable to run on 6000MHz max default spec.
Thanks... -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What the markings on the chip state and what the voltages and timings have been set to can be quite different.
-
Somebody else had Hynix memory and told me it would run 1.35v/5000 or 1.5v/6000. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If its rated for 1.5ghz it should usually do more than that. Good chips closer to 1.75ghz.
-
I've got an ASUS G750JH (maybe defective) without HDD, SSD and RAM. I'm able to turn it on if I put RAM in but the display stays black.
Maybe there's no GPU inside as well? Is there any way to see if the GPU is inside without disassembling the whole device?
Thank you. -
It actually sounds as though your rather hard on power Jacks? this is not usually a problem for most people you need to figure out what your doing to cause this? Don't take this the wrong way but you need to evaluate what it is that you are doing that other people don't that is causing the power port to be damaged.
Since your G73 warranty is done you could open it up and see how these power ports are solder on. perhaps even pick one up on Ebay and repair your G73 if that goes well. You'll not only be able to sell the G73 but you'll have the confidence to repair your G750.
I think I would still pm cl-albert and go the RMA route since you probably still have quite a bit of warranty left. As to the G73 you got nothing to lose an money and experience to gain. -

Can I buy an ASUS GTX765M or GTX770M (made for G750JX or JW) and put it into my G750JH. Will that work?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It would depend if the vbios for it was integrated into the system bios, you may could flash the corresponding system bios onto yours and then put the new asus gpu in. Of course you can't go back until it's all working again so is risky.
