Review of the 17" Asus G771 here.
Note that it comes with GTX 860M but that is just because Asus can`t announce GTX 970M/980M yet because Nvidia haven`t announced the chips yet. But the notebook with 970M/980M will look the same

Thanks for the info.
If that retailer's spec sheet is accurate, Asus cut nearly 2 pounds off of the G750 for the G751 and have made it more uniformly flat from the previous wedge shape. At 3.8kg/8.38 pounds, it's now the lightest of the three popular 17-inch gaming desktop replacements (along with the MSI GT72 and Alienware 17).
They're also ramping up the power brick wattage to 230 watts from 180, which is good.
The only thing that really bothered me about the G750 was the graininess and inaccurate colors of the screen. Maybe they'll properly factory calibrate this one. If they get things right, I'm going to be excited.
The G771 looks like Asus' first shot at the lighter weight market. The cooling worries me, though I've already lost hope in "gaming ultrabooks". -
I dont think you should worry about the cooling. Asus is pretty good at this and the G771 and G751 are the new models so they should be better than G750.
Another thing is that 980M runs much cooler than GTX 880M so it the notebook will run nice and quiet. GTX 880M is 125W, 980M, who knows, 80-90W I think. While beating the 880M severely in games. It will be one awesome upgrade -
If the G771 runs between 85-90 degrees with the GTX 860M (as the reviewer in that video claims), an already fairly easy-to-cool GPU, I'll pass on it. The MSI GS70 has been hot and toasty enough for me. -
Thanks for the info
It is really nice to see Asus were able to cut nearly 1kg compared to the g750's. I would like to say that this is actually a 17.3" laptop instead of 15,6", although I prefer 15',6". As Extrospector said, if Asus can solve the graininess screen issue this will very likely be my next laptop. Hope I can get my hands on it before the end of this year -
Where's the 17.3" model?
-
-
-
Why did some website claim it a 15.6"?

Asus G751 costing 1500 euros when the G750 retailed for 2000-2200. Where is all these savings coming from?

Looks great. Finally enough of a boost to replace my old g73jh! The 980m looks like a great combo of lower power and performance, plus Asus finally cranking the PSU up. On the downside I presume the HQ on the CPU indicates it's not replaceable.
-
What is this model exactly ?
the 15 inch version or something maybe -

The 15 inch model adds another nice option into the market. It should be popular. I have to admit it's tempting.
-
Double-layered exhausts - looks nice, maybe they're more practical in some way too.
I hope Asus isn't compromising cooling proficiency for the thinner chassis. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Deeper and shaped heatsinks going by their past designs.
-
2 different g751 models? mmmAttached Files:

But oddly, the image of the rear is the only one in which you can see red grills and the double-layered exhausts, so maybe the rear image was put on the G751 page by accident. Maybe it's indeed of an upcoming 15-inch refresh model. -
You guys...of course the double layer exhaust will be the 17" GTX 980M model whereas the single layer is for 970M.
There's example of this already on the previous G750JZ. -
-
Interesting, unlikely to buy a 17 inch model for me, optical drive and multiple HDs are obsolete, only making the laptop bigger/heavier, 1 hd slot 1-2ssd is all i need, if no 15inch model will stick to msi/razer/gigabyte
-
Low spec model might be just what I am looking/waiting for. Sole reason not getting G750JM was the weight, and this supposed G751JM is ~1.5kg lighter. That's something! How did they do it?
-
You guys, here are the full specs. It looks really juicy! : ASUS G751JY-T7056H, Äierny | SHARK.sk
-
But yeah, the specs are good news for sure! Can't wait for someone to get it and report on the quality of the screen. -
Sorry about that, I'm just so excited! Currently i'm selling my notebook (sig) and as soon as I sell it, I'll be ordering the G751 with GTX 980M! Well, providing some other heavyweight doesn't capture my interest (GT 72, AW). The only thing holding me back on the G750 (the whole ROG series notebooks) is the way they decided to design the thing in such a way, that you can't access the fans... which is a must. So I hope that they made this one a little bit more user-friendly. Although I doubt it, considering that it's been this way since the G73JH.

Pretty soon I will need a new laptop. My guess is there will be no glossy screen option for the g751. I have waited so many generations now. I think my only option will be the Alienware 17 but I really just want a new Asus. To me the matte screens are trash especially the ones Asus uses. I want a really nice glossy or bust.
-
Won't be too hard to upgrade screen yourself. Or buy off a reseller who does it for you. I prefer glossy, so will probably buy then upgrade to glossy later once some good disassembly guides out.

They may have seen the weight and assumed.
-
Damn, stats are too way good than g750jz. I will either sell my g750jz after a review of g751 or give my computer to my brother to get a new one.
-
I think i said this earlier in another CF's thread, but i'm here desperately waiting to buy this thing. University life is not perfect without a laptop =(
-
It's time to replace my old G73Jh
-
Naw I am tired of replacing the the screens and you usually get a 2nd rate screen when you buy a replacement. Asus can go screw them selves until they put a decent screen in a laptop. At least I can get an Alienware with 120hz screen and it will be the same price or less.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can get a different screen if you go through a reseller of course.
-
Even in the video review the first thing you see is a garbage quality matte screen. It is way overdue to to include at least one glossy model or 120hz. Asus is out of touch. I would have bought 2 or 3 new models by now if they included a decent glossy screen.

The dude in this video say it is a ips screen..!
edit: Have to say that this looks really good! But he also say this is one with a 860m, is this a slimer model?
Cuz this horrible picture::

Did g750 series have diferent sizes? If not i doubt g751 will, shark.sk do have some pictures that look rather photoshoped.
Tho, if it comes without mSata or m.2, no buy for me.. -
-
-
And btw! is there any chance the new g751 will use MXM standard?
-
No worries, if I had to make a guess, I would say that the 17.3" chassis will be the same size regardless of which GPU they put in it (980M/970M/960M), similar to how the current 750J models are all the same size with different GPUs in them.
The site which is currently hosting images for the new unit is kind of a mess as it looks like it's showing multiple different units, maybe a mix of 17.3" and 15.6".Kaozm likes this. -

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes the top end ones have larger heatsinks to help keep things under control
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can always get it changed out by a reseller.
-
The price is stink for me, for sure the price of the 970m chip is nearly as high as 880m
-
It appears that the Asus G751JT is available for pre-order in US for 1.899 US$. I was expecting a lower price
. Also looking at the photos this model seems to have a deeper bottom compared to version with gtx 860m. I thought that just the version with gtx 980m (G751JY) would have this deeper bottom (ugly).
