I have a Asus G75VW and my SSD failed on me.

Is there a way to restore my PC from the .WIM file only?
What are the steps to accomplish this?

    What I tried so far:
    1 -
    Clean install Windows 8.
Use DISM /apply-image over the OS partition.
    (Does not boot anymore).

    2 -
    Edited a Windows 8.1 iso.
Replaced the install.wim inside it with mine.
(The boot starts the installation, but I cant proceed bacause there is no windows listed to install.)

Use the original 8.1 ISO use a generic Key to start the Install, once the install is complete use your Win 8 key to activate very simple.
    http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?28758-GUIDE-G55-G75-Upgrade-Notes&country=&status=
Solved Activate retail Windows 8.1 with Windows 8 Product key.

Not sure if these Generic keys are still good but here are the ones I use
    Windows 8.1 Single Language Y9NXP-XT8MV-PT9TG-97CT3-9D6TC
    Windows 8.1 Core 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
Windows 8.1 Pro XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB these will only allow the install to start you will have to activate with your Win 8 key
If these do don't work just goggle for the current ones.

That explains a clean install. Not a recovery with a .WIM file.

This thread discusses using a .wim file recover windows 8 from a .wim file - Page 2

probably just as easy to barrow a Win 8.1 DVD from someone.

The thing is that the .WIM file provided by ASUS for the G75VW is kinda small and uncomplete.
I will give up after MANY attempts of using it.
A clean install using Windows 8, for some reason, destroyed my notebooks performance. Even Hearthstone is lagging (25-30 fps).
(Yes, I followed the clean install guides. Yes I tried both NVIDIA drivers, the ones provided by ASUS and the newest ones).

Now I'm installing Windows 7... I'll see how this goes.

Thanks all for your effort in helping me.

Can you post up CPU/GPU temps/clocks/usage charts?

I'm not with the notebook anymore. The CPU/GPU usage and temps are fine. Both on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
What I mean by fine is: Temps are OK and the CPU/GPU usage are normal. GPU 90-100% and CPU varies.

The results are the SAME between both OS, but for some reason, only Windows 7 works as expected.
I tried 3 clean installs with Windows 8.1, all of them failed. Always following the clean install tutorials found on the internet.

Who knows... I'm pretty shure it was not my fault.

There is likely some issue with a driver that's being missed, if clocks are fine and usage is at 90-100% with no throttle % then performance would be normal.

It sounds like you may be trying to install a UEFI version of Windows 8.1 on a MBR system or vise versa Since you are in this forum your system from factory is UEFI and your disk should be GPT, follow the guides to install UEFI. Make sure that your booting your install media UEFI

I used Rufus to build a flashdrive with Windows 8 (and Windows 8.1) with GPT option selected.
There was no throttle that I could find (I got the data from GPU-Z, and everything seemed normal).

I am so angry with this... I installed ALL THE DRIVERS. Nothing is missing. Windows 7 is just running perfectly...
I give up from Windows 8.

You really should share your graphs since you may be missing something.

That's the one I followed since first clean install.

I'm not with the notebook anymore... a friend is using it with Windows 7. I can't re-install Windows 8 just to get the data... If I could and had the patience to do it, I would.

Thank you all for helping me...
