Heyas,
Just got myself a brand new Asus G75VW with 1x750GB Seagate HDD installed. I made recovery disks with Asus software and now I´m trying to install Intel 520 SSD as OS disk, but I´m expreiencing difficulties. Here is what I have done so far:
- burned recovery DVD´s succesfully from the old HDD
- removed HDD from the machine and installed SSD to it´s place
- made system recovery from the DVD´s to the SSD succesfully
After that I can´t boot the machine. It just says "No proper boot device detected". I have checked the BIOS and set the SSD as a primary boot device, but there seems to be somekind of problem with the new EFI-type BIOS on G75VW but Asus doesn´t provide BIOS upgrade yet so I´m totally running out of ideas. I have tried to repeat the whole recovery-process but it doesn´t help.
Does anyone around here have Asus G75 and made succesfull SSD installation to it? If so, can you tell me how you did it, please?!
(I have made dozens of SSD installations before to various machines so I know the basics. This problem must have something to do with new EFI BIOS or the new GPD filesystem on G75. I have tried every "basic trick" including HDD cloning to SSD with HD Clone)

reqovery sometimes don't work....
clean install of windows should fix that problem.... -
Agree with Robert. Do a clean install. A recovery brings all the bloatware onto your SSD as well.
I would also keep the HDD and move that into the secondary bay. Also, I didn't even have to put my SSD into the HDD's original slot but instead, I left the SSD in the expansion slot and simply told the BIOS to boot off of that SSD. It works perfectly fine, and both HDD slots are still rated at the same SATA speeds so it's really not much of a difference, if any at all. -
I was able to add crucial m4 ssd no problem. I did it same as you but put the ssd in the spare bay and removed hdd. I changed nothing in the bios. Powered then at prompt booted to dvd and did the recovery. Been working fine so far. I bought the BB model G75vw bk.

Hmm i have the same G75vw model at the moment and am trying to install a Samsung 830 256gb ssd, sadly there is little information about successful ssd installs on our system. Good to know that both slot bays are equivalent sata 3 speeds, and the ssd can just be installed in the expansion bay. Gonna try to install windows from a Usb thumbdrive without any drivers, and see if i can succeed with my first ssd installation hehe..
Edit: First roadblock to my hasty plan is needing a cd/dvd driver during the windows installation eventhough im not using the cd drive for windows installation.. cant seem to find where it is on the asus driver page for the G75VW located here http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&s=388&m=G75VW&os=&hashedid=gkyI9iViQxXxueTd .
Seems to be the driver chipset for the ahci mode that i need to find, having trouble getting a hold of it sadly.. Knew this wouldnt be too easy. -
You can try to copy the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver (under Others) from here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G75VW to an other memory stick (might even work with the Win7 Install one) and try them. You need to first extract them though!
-
I did not need to load drivers. Everything that was needed to make it work was on the recovery discs that I made using the asus utility .
-
Yeah, if you use the recovery discs, then the drivers should be included. But it sounds like SlickDragon wanted to use original Windows 7 installation media, they probably don't include the drivers.
-
If it says you need a CD/DVD driver, that basically means that the installation media (whether that be DVD or flash drive) is corrupt and you'll need to make a new bootable device (such as DVD or flash drive). I would recommend making a bootable flash drive. Both the Windows7 ISO and the tool that helps make a flash drive bootable with Windows7 on it are freely available online.

Yeh i was having problems doing a fresh install since i kept getting the error "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing" via usb installation, but somehow i miraculously got it to work via changing the flash drive to another usb port.. Now just desperately trying to get the network adapters so i can get online via my ssd with windows installed, but dam is it fast.. Just praying i don't botch up all the driver's i needa install, wish asus would freaking include windows cd's and disk drivers like Alienware and other elite manufacturers, but alas the extra pennies it would cost to include a couple cd's seems to be out of their budget range..
Edit: Got the Atheros WLAN drive installed and am all set to hunt down the missing drivers which may be difficult sadly. So far this thing is blazing fast, just hope i don't run into any bsod or the like, but hopefully the samsung 830 is as reliable as people claim it is, and i dont regret not shelling out another $50 for a corsair performance pro as I initially planned on doing -
I went through the same problem when I tried to install an ssd on my ASUS P6t desktop motherboard. Previously I only had mechanical hard drives.
You need to enable AHCI in the windows registry as well as the TRM function. Just follow these procedures:
How to enable TRIM Command in Windows 7 with a Solid State Drive
To enable or disable TRIM Command, you will need to open an Elevated Command Prompt window.
How To Open an Elevated Command Prompt window: Click on Start Orb > Type "CMD.exe" in Search box > Right click on "CMD" and select "Run as Administrator" (If you receive a prompt confirmation, click YES)
How to Enable TRIM Command
In the Elevated command Prompt windows, type the following:
fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0
How to Disable TRIM Command
In the Elevated command Prompt windows, type the following:
fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 1
How do I know if TRIM is working in Windows 7?
In the Elevated command Prompt windows, type the following:
fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify
Results explained below:
DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)
How to enable AHCI in Windows 7 after Instalation:
There is one way to fix this, although you need to have knowledge of registry editing. The detailed steps from Microsoft are as follows:
1.Exit all Windows-based programs.
2.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3.If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci
5.In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6.In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7.On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
After this youll have to restart your computer, go to BIOS and enable AHCI. When you log in to Windows again, youll notice the installation of drivers for AHCI. Another restart will be required to finish the driver installation.
