I'm very impressed with this Amazon.com: ASUS G75VW-AS71 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories
    and am considering buying.

Thing is though, I'm not really a gamer. I do some video making though and rendering and so really like the power and graphics card.

If I didn't buy this I'd buy an Envy 17 or a Chronos 7 Series.

What I do most on my laptop is write.

What I'm asking is, while the power will help for the video rendering is the G75 keyboard and build quality far behind the Envy or 7 Series?

What would nay of you who have the G75 and are not major gamers recommend? Any regrets since you bought?
Thanks for any help and many apologies if I've transgressed forum rules (I'm a real newbie here).

you look at clevo at all? they usually have better packages for what you pay for. try a reseller like xotic. out of all the 3 you listed, i like the chronos the best if i didnt game much. i have the G75VW with me right now and i find it too bulky which makes it unpractical to carry around and wouldnt recommend it .

If you are talking about ASUS G75 vs a 17" Sager which would be the 9170 most likely, the Sager is certainly less bulky and more powerful overall. Especially it being user upgradeable and the video card is replaceable.

This is a huge advantage over the ASUS model, where this GPU is soldered onto the motherboard.

But, overall both models are very powerful especially if you are not gaming. But, as per the body I think Clevos are far more durable.

Many thanks. I played around with some options from Xotic and was able to get a Sager similar to the Asus but with a solid state drive and all for the same price. Do you ship to Alaska and does it take long from ordering to delivery (give or take, I'm sure it depend on the specifications)
    Thanks again :)

This is what i was thinking about, I'm a bit of a newbie though, any glaring ommissions here for an Asus G75 like performance with better build quality?
    Thanks again!

Highly recommend the AUO Matte V5 if you intend the video edit, the thing is outstanding and makes the gloss screen look very standard.

The 650 is the same as the 660 just lower clocked and will handle anything thrown at it quite comfortably.

You really want to pick up an SSD though as a 6GB/s SSD will destroy the 7200RPM Seagate.

Having owned an Envy17 and now using the G75vw, I can tell you that the G75vw is superior overall:
    1. Best cooling system in all the gaming laptop out there, bar none. Super quiet and cool, very pleasant to work with. My old Envy17 (i7 & 6850 gpu), had thermal shut down issue and gets very hot, even with a cooling pad.
    2. Having torn down both, I can tell you that Asus is more DIY friendly: kudos to Asus for labelling the screw sizes!
    3. Matte screen of the G75vw is eye strain friendly and anti-glare is a huge plus. Envy17's screen is brighter and clearer, but so damn reflective.
    4. keyboard is better than Envy17, IMO. And its trackpad is far better. Envy17's trackpad is unusable, ask any envy17 owner.

Envy17 is superior in that it lasts much longer on battery power (switchable GPU), thinner at the back, slot loading optical, and pretty decent repair service (had to sent it in twice: once for wifi and other time for thermal issue).

I don't have any of those games. But I did play Diablo III on both. On Envy17, it is slow and I get thermal shut down all the time. But on G75vw, in all high setting (minus anti AA), smooth and stays cool.

I also played Elder Scrolls: Skyrim on the Envy17. It was doing fine in 1080p setting, with occasional thermal shut down. Have not played it on the G75vw yet.

HP laptops should not have graphics cards if they do not care for their cooling. Ridiculous that you get thermal shutdown. Recommend sending it back and demanding a repaste.

This is how most laptops work, severe throttling or even thermal shut down. It's the reason I got Asus G55 first and G75 after.
