    Hey,
I've recently done a TIM repaste on my G73jh, the temperatures are much lower than before (70c idle). But I'm wondering if it is safe to run my fans at 100% at all times. The noise won't bother me, but a heated laptop will. I know how to modify the speed. I'm just wondering whether or not the constant speed will cause the fans to break faster than allowing the laptop fans to run on auto-default speeds. I know these laptops are designed to put out some serious heat.. Dual-fans, and with some pretty hot components... but are the fans designed to do what they are supposed to do in reality?
This laptop will be on 7+ hours a day... In pretty hot & humid weather (Egypt)- So, heat is an important factor for me, especially since I do play games.. On relatively high settings (BF3 - Mix High & Med/ 900p @ 30-60fps). And the temperatures cuts into 90c.

What do you all think? Is it a smart move to increase fan speeds to max, even on idle. Or is the tweak as dumb as overclocking a smartphone?

    Thanks,

Currently, I'm playing a video using VLC (VGA Resolution and window size)
And I have a bunch of Google Chrome tabs open, along with Rainmeter, and all Windows Aero features enabled on my 1600x900p screen, and the laptop is running at 63.5c. Which I think is fine, but I want it to run even cooler if possible.

This is my first post, and certainly not my last. I've used the NBR Forums a lot in my past- I just was not vocal on it. I'd like to thank a lot of you G73 enthusiasts for doing a lot of work detailing problems, creating stickies, and hosting Gigabytes of drivers and hotfixes on personal servers to help others. Thank you!

Also, I'm not using up to date drivers. I'm using CCC 11.8..
Everything else is up to date, even vBIOS/BIOS.
I'd be more than happy to update my GPU Driver. If it would improve performance and temperatures (I thankfully, have no issues with GSOD etc..)

But I'd like for a veteran to direct me to a driver and instructions on updating ..
Because it seems like the last time I tried updating the GPU driver .. I failed.. and I had to revert... (The resolution was changed to some strange 1152x864 and it wouldn't budge any higher.)

    Thanks once again!

didn't read the whole thing but yes it will help reduce speeds and help keep it cool and make sure your temps are golden but it will reduce the life of the fan to some extent. Most fans are rated for 20,000,50,000 hours of running.(from what I remember) I personally keep my fans on full speed to make sure my temps are good. I would also look to see if you can buy a spare one just in case. So I would due it for sure and get a spare to be safe.

err noted the 90c....definately run your fans at max speeds. check out my thread if you want to see if any of the things i have done can help you.

20,000-50,000 hours. xD That's a very wide range. How long would you say, at your estimate. A pair of G73 fans last running 7 hours a day, on max speed? I don't expect you to give me a formulated explanation of anything ;)
Just an educated guess if possible.

    Thanks,

Any G73 owners want to comment on the GPU driver bit?

at full speed i would say 20k...the lower end of spectrum but you have to look up fan specs. I assume they are brushless fans so i dont know much about those. I just remember desktop case fans that are ball bearings. They vary from that range depending on how they are made so brushless fans are different

I'm trying to find some specs for the G73jh fans.. Which I've figured out that the model number is: 13GNY810P220-1
But there is hardly any detail about it, even on the Asus eStore, they don't provide any information.

I'm stuck trying to figure out.. whether or not in the long run setting up the fans to run at full blast is a wise decision. Based on your guess at 20k hours- At full blast, the Fans should last 8 years

You said you personally keep your fans at full speed at all times. What kind of laptop are you using? And have you ever had to replace a fan? (how long have you had it?) I'm just trying to get a look into what you're doing and see if it may make things a bit more clear for my situation.

    Thanks,
