Hello! I am looking for impressions on this computer, I am about to pull the trigger on it and haven't found much on it.

Any owner lurking here that can comment? Speed of Thuderbolt 3 connector? Thermals? Build quality? Screen quality?

    Thank you!

The screen is a 144hz IPS panel, which has on average 300nits which is above average, the color coverage is also decent. If I had to rate the screen i'd say 7/10, so it's on the better end.

Thunderbolt 3 has the same speed on all thudnerbolt 3 ports, doesn't matter the notebook.

It is a little loud under high load, which could be annoying if you don't use headphones.

The speakers are rather good for its small form factor, not amazing but usable.

Build quality is very good, nothing to complain about

Thermals are an issue in a sense where the notebook doesnt overheat, but instead it does something to prevent the overheating which I personally don't agree with. The EC firmware will actually throttle the CPU down before it can get to warm. It starts at 85c to simply underpower the CPU and forcing it to slow it down long before it gets steamy. When doing a stresstest the CPU will actually stop using turbo and go down to 2.2ghz, which is really slow.

Isn't that the same as the Zephyrus M GM501?

For the screen at least, I think you are referring to the GM501. The GU501 is a BestBuy exclusive with a 120Hz IPS panel. Also, I believe that the GU does not include the lift up air cooling.

Also, from what I read (used to be more Desktop kinda guy, now life made me Laptop) Thuderbolt 3 can be half speed, 20Gbps vs 40Gbps

The GU is basicially a GM. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's the same screen just clocked down a little bit.

    I think that's only a thing if you use a 20gbps cable.

Really liking it. It's a little larger than I'd like but for the price/features and sleek body I don't think there's anything out there. Gets me my overwatch when I travel and at 120hz. What's not to like.
