Hey guys I have a Asus G72GX, 6gb ram, GTX 260m, republic of gamers edition laptop. I just got it, did a fresh install, updated the video drivers through device manager, haven't screwed around with anything really, I overclock to 15% when I'm gaming.
Now here's the problem, I play Crysis 2, 1600x900, everything set to very high, and it's smooth, no issues, but after 10 mins or playing, it lags like crazy, like even when I go to the options it's all laggy, and even if I change the settings to high and put the revolution a step down, it's still laggy. But if I tab out the actual computer works perfectly fine, everything is fast and smooth, it's only during Crysis.. whats up?

*sigh* what are your temps? Nvidia Gpu's throttle the clocks back when overheating, which would cause the lag your seeing only after a certain amount of time in-game.

I would bring your setting down for a test as well.
Also GPU-Z can report the temps as well.
That might help to see when it peaks.
Also have your Blown out the cooling ducts with Air? -
Well that is what happens when you buy an Nvidia I warned you people.
It sounds to me like a driver issue to be honest, or you have not set up the laptop in high performance mode. To be honest I am not surprised you are getting lag if when you say very high you mean Extreme settings on Crysis 2 because my bad boy ATI can only get 30ish frames at Extreme so I would expect your 460M to creep around 25-30FPS it could just be bouncing up and down when you reach a section that requires more power than is available.
Check it with FRAPS and check all sections of the GPU using HWINFO or GPU-z because it could be the MeM(IO) overheating. -
65C?? From all Ive read most people are lucky to even idle at those temps with the 260, yet alone game, and Crysis 2 at that, have gpuz log in the background.
Dallers: Not even a 460, its a 260lol
-
Yeah 65C lol, it's cold down here I guess, what's a high temperature also, because I just figured out how to put it into overclock, and now I can play for more then 10 mins. Ovbiously the temp goes up but whats too hot? I was between 70-75c overclocked. Yeah I have the settings to very high it's one below extreme, extreme isn't that playable, maybe if I ugprade to quad core it could.
-
Crysis 2 very high on GDDR3. You might need to drop to medium settings. Does that thing have a Quad core or Duel core. If its the latter, yes medium settings. -
so what's a safe temp? Cause as I said I am running at very high and it's not lagging, and I'm only overclocked to 5%, I'll probably try 3% later. I guess keeping it overclocked allows me to play longer then 10 mins. Also there is no medium settings, high, very high and extreme?

Sorry what? Also I used GPU-Z no gaming or anything right now, I'm at 60c -
Gamer "settings". It's the equivalent of medium, I think.
As for temps, I think you're just looking at "current temp" not max temp.
Anything lower than 3 digits is fine. -
, I just wanted to know what's safe, and terrific, I don't seem to go any higher then 75C while playing Crysis 2.
-
In regards to the drops in Frame rate you are experiencing I still believe it is because of your card as GDDR3 is not as fast as GDDR5 and the latest GDDR5 cards can only get frames of 40-60 at Advanced so I would expect you to have to use Gamer to get the same. -
-
bump I tried playing batman archym asylum on medium settings overclocked to 15% and again it lags after 10 mins but before that it's fine. gpu is only at 62C
-
he have intel core 2 duo p8700 2.53ghz i guess, and i also think that he bought it on newegg
because it is on sale in there for like $600
crysis 2 on gtx260m gddr3 and ddr2 ram and dual core processor, hmmmm interresting. -
gtx 260m at 62c while gaming is tad hard to believe, these cards gets insane hot in asus laptops , because of the crap cooling
i idle around 60c
Asus Gaming Lags.
