    Hi All,

I'm interested in a recent ASUS model N61JQ-B1. It's a 16" screen laptop; however with only one hard drive bay. ASUS N61JQ-B1 Gaming Laptops

I want to install 1 x SSD & 1 x HDD (SSD will be 90GB, for OS and apps). I want to install the SSD in the optical drive bay. Is this a fairly standard thing to do or are there sometimes issues faced later?

Are there instances where a DVD drive is absolutely a must? (example when reinstalling an OS). I already have an external USB DVD drive (does USB drive work while installing OS form DVD?).

    Thanks! :)

With Win7 you can install it from a Flash drive now....
So you are right a DVD drive is not needed for the most part these days.

    Thanks Hrogi.

In case I need to reinstall the OS from DVD, can I put the DD in an external DVD drive (thru USB port) and reinstall the OS?

    Thanks.

    Yes you can...

    Win7 is cool that way.
You can also Netowrk push it, but you may need a special system for that.
