Hi i send my g73jh to one of asus's repair center for RMA on the 14 and they got the thumbs up to repair it on the 17th,
and i called them on the 20th asking about the status but they told me theyre waiting for a new motherboard from asus to ship in,
my question is how long does that usually take for them to get it and how much longer will it take for them to be done with the laptop so i can pick it up(is close by)?
    any information will be good,
im really lost without my g73 :[
and one more question, if they were to replace the whole motherboard, does that mean the video card and processor are to be replaced as well cause their soldered into the motherboard? correct me if im wrong.

The CPU and GPU aren't soldered to the mainboard. I don't know if the replacement boards come with the CPU/GPU on them when the repair centers get them. As for the time it will take, only Asus knows. The two times i had to RMA my N50 took around 5 days to send it and get it back. You'll get it shortly after Asus gets the mobo.

You didn't mention where it was sent for RMA. That usually helps as different RMA centers have different turn-around times.

Depends on whether or not they have any on hand, or if they're going to be ordering from overseas. If they have to order overseas, customs will hold it up for a short time, then its a matter of getting installed and tested. I'd give them a call either tomorrow or Monday, if they don't update status by then. The California RMA centers are usually pretty quick and do good work.

Why not? What are they going to do, stop repairing your laptop? At least you have a chance of getting an actual ETA on completion.

You most likely will not get any kind of an accurate ETA. I had to wait on a part for my RMA late last year and I believe they had my laptop about three and a half weeks. To be fair, part of that time was over the Thanksgiving holiday so that probably doesn't count.

The California facility is a good repair center. They have no incentive to sit on your laptop and do nothing with it. I'm pretty sure the whole process is automated and when the part ships in your laptop will be flagged to be pulled and have the parts swapped in. Nobody there has to "remember" to go pull John Doe's laptop and get it fixed and sent out. That all happens when the computer inventory system says "Pull laptop 487564 from bin 784357 and put part 8756749 in it."

I don't work there or anything but I have worked as a programmer at a manufacturing facility for a long time and I know that's how things are done in modern America. Some of us drive ourselves crazy calling for status updates and asking if it's ready yet and it doesn't help. It doesn't make the process go faster. I doubt the repair facility has exact arrival information for crates of parts coming from Taiwan. My company ships things overseas. This is usually done in containers that get loaded on cargo ships. Cargo shipping time can vary by many days depending on weather and other factors. When we ship something from Texas to Tokyo we have an idea of when it will get there but it's more like a five day window than an actual arrival date. It's not like UPS second day air. I'm sure the Asus factory puts repair parts and laptops and whatever else in their containers and it goes back and forth to the USA on routine shipments. I doubt they are making special shipments to fly in parts for the repair facility.

I really hated being without my laptop for weeks. It was nearly a month. Don't drive yourself crazy over it, though. My experience is that the Cali facility fixes it as fast as they can and ships it back to you as soon as they can. You can call, do a little griping, and get them to send it back overnight sometimes. I wasn't able to but others here have done so. I'm not very good and getting all angry with them over the phone and getting what I want. Others have had more luck. Mine came back FedEx ground in about four or five days.

That's just my two cents, HENRY001.

    thanks Jody,
as much as i hate waiting for it,
    i got no other choice,
    3-4 weeks you say?
well half of that had already gone by, best be expecting the worst.
anyways thanks for the information, it kinda puts my mind at ease.
