Looks like LaptopMedia is correct, at about 0:07, above F5, a (X) mode icon appears.
The whole row of icons is something like
    [headlight-off] [headlight-on] [mute-mic] ALPHA (X) [redplug] [ROG]

At first I thought [redplug] was a sideways android logo -- making a 3-way chimera possible.
But it may just be about USB-charging or something.

Maybe this is intended to be for competitive eSports -like Xbox tournament players.

So, a 702 replacement, judging by the size in the video

    Those cooling vents look similar.
Then again, all of the bulky gaming laptops kinda look the same

That's what I keep saying about these high refresh rate display's in laptops, they push up the load on the CPU / GPU and therefore put out more heat and draw more power to render more frames than a 60hz laptop.

@120hz it was 2x more load, now at 144hz it's 2.4x - so much more load Asus had to increase the physical volume of the laptop to hold larger cooling components to contain and vent the heat generated to keep the laptop running cool.

You can't have a thin laptop and at the same time increase the load on the GPU / CPU, as that's pushing the design in 2 different directions.

Thin laptops reduce the volume and mass of the cooling system, while increasing the FPS from 60hz to 120hz - 2x, and now 60hz to 144hz - 2.4x increases the thermal / power load.

You can't have both thin/light and high FPS display in the same laptop and expect either design choice work well together.

This is a great move by Asus to show the required practicalities of having a high frame rate display in a laptop :)

It's got the room for it, and MSI has the MXM GT73VR and GT83VR 1080's to choose from, I haven't seen an interior shot yet of the Chimera to prove one way or the other.

The power rating of the Chimera 1080 might be even higher than either the GT73VR or GT83VR.

It will be interesting to see the benchmarks of the Chimera compared to the GT73VR and GT83VR 1080's.

I was hoping the Chimera might contain the rumored 1080ti level performance for laptops, I guess that's still out in the future, maybe Volta time-frame.

Is there a model "number" associated with the Chimera yet?

Im glad Asus is making the chassis larger. Hopefully they get the thermals under control.

The 74whr battery isn't "huge", as the largest allowed is 99whr, and that would be what I would call "huge" ;)

All the info is the same, pretty much, no definite mention of IPS or IPS-like rather than TN, although I thought I did see that in a media mention somewhere, does anyone have a link?

Maybe it's just because it's a pre-order or does it come with a larger SSD?

Either way, it's too rich for my blood. I'd rather just spend 2k and upgrade every 2-3 years.

The rumored price is/was $2999, so it's a "big" bump in price surprise :)

Hopefully the price will correct as more places offer the Chimera.

Not from what the Notebookcheck review said:

"However, the total package is correspondingly expensive: The 17-inch device costs more than 3,000 Euros (~$3164). Our review unit with the model ending VIK-BA049T also has 32 GB of DDR4-RAM (2x 16 GB @2400 MHz) and an SSD-RAID that consists of two 256 GB M.2 drives. The display only comes with a Full HD panel, but it can make use of 120 Hz and Nvidia's G-Sync technology.
    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-G701VIK-Notebook-Review.198294.0.html

Another earlier review had the similarly configured G701 going for $2999, with a 2x512GB M.2 PCIE NVME RAID + 64GB for $3499, so that excaliberpc configuration should be $2999...

"The Asus ROG G701VI we reviewed cost $3,500 and came packed with a 2.7-GHz Intel Core i7-6820HK, 64GB of RAM, two 512GB PCIe M.2 SSDs set in a RAID0 configuration, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPU with 8GB of VRAM.

Asus sells one other configuration of the laptop: a $3,000 version with the same CPU and GPU, but 32GB of RAM and a single 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD."
    https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/asus-rog-g701vi

So yeah, that ExcaliberPC listing is $500 too high :)

Well in Finland 16 gb ram and 256x2 ssd G701vik model is 3299€ to 3699€ time to time. When I saw 3599$, it didnt bother me so much if they really fullfil what is promised this time.

Keep in mind that Euro is a bit stronger against Dollar these days than a year ago, so I believe EU users will get that model slightly cheaper.

So off the wall question here, but how big of a difference does it make to go from 120 to 144hz? I got my 502vs to go from 60 to 120hz, and I could tell the difference, but I'm not sure how much different it would be to make a second jump to 144hz.

INTRODUCING THE ROG CHIMERA GAMING LAPTOP AND ITS ULTRA-FAST 144HZ DISPLAY
Tuned for a true 144-FPS gaming experience
"Gamers and esports players are increasingly flocking to high-refresh monitors for fluid visuals and improved responsiveness. The Chimera's 144Hz display is capable of keeping up with frame rates as high as 144 FPS, which translates to silky smooth graphics and gameplay that are especially apparent in fast-paced titles. We didn’t have to sacrifice picture quality, either. The 17.3” IPS-type panel has rich colors and wide viewing angles that ensure games look their best whether you’re playing solo or sharing the screen for multiplayer.

IPS-type laptop displays typically have slow response times that produce visible ghosting behind fast-moving objects. Their individual pixels usually take around 25 milliseconds to switch between shades of gray, but we worked closely with our panel partner to cut that time to just 7 ms, which neatly matches the 6.9-ms delay between the screen’s refresh cycles. When a new frame is ready to be drawn, the remnants of the old one should be all but gone. Quicker pixel transitions make rapid motion and action look much sharper, especially when the display is refreshing at full speed."

Here is the official Link: https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ROG-G703/

    But:
    17.3" (16:9) LED backlit FHD (1920x1080) 144Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 72% NTSC with 178˚ wide-viewing angle Display
    17.3" (16:9) LED backlit UHD (3840x2160) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 100% NTSC with 178˚ wide-viewing angle Display

So the FHD ist $3,499 and the UHD may be $3,xxx

It’s a lot chunkier than I thought it would be but given the hardware inside.....but man that price!
I’m not a cheap bastard or anything and always willing to pay premium prices for high quality things but it’s still too much in my opinion.

Waiting for reviews. If the cooling is up to the mark (either before or after repasting), it is an expensive but very interesting alternative to the GT73VR.

You're going to have to wait for someone with some overclocking experience to actually buy it and do some tests better than that crap you see over at LTT.

Is the Bios completely locked down?
Does it have the infamous hybrid battery drain issue of the GL502VS series?
    https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthre...ing-while-Plugged-in/page19&highlight=GL502VS
can the 45W TDP of the CPU be overridden through Bios?
Can max amps/cpu current (ICCMax) be changed in Bios or must XTU be used?
Is there a hard artificial power cap? How good is the cooling at max fans? Stock for stock paste?

This version needs to be tested in depth. Because it could either be a half decent BGAbook, or a power throttled abortion.
The Clevo laptops for instance, throttle harder than the MSI GT73, without a prema bios.

No one has done any in depth hardcore testing of the GT75VR, but there are plenty of MSI power shenanigans and fake VID reporting and VID boosting in the GT73VR. And the HM175 chipset version will cap the CPU at 800 mhz if the max power exceeds 330W (test done with the "HM175" EC 17A1EMS1.112 on a CM238, through the unlocked Bios by PSYS_PMax=337W (2700). The CM238 version (EC 17A1EMS1.108) does not seem to do this, probably because there is an SLI version available (it may still PL2 power limit the CPU to 45W, but no one has tested exceeding 330W (only possible with an unlocked TDP GTX 1080, and that Eurocomm PSU), but @sirgeorge found that the battery stops charging if PSYS_PMax is set to 2700, at *idle* (on his SLI with 17A1EMS1.107 EC).

Hello i got mine. Before i own a MSI GT73VR which i could sell for a good Price. I also had to make the decision to go for the MSI GT75VR 7RF OR ASUS ROG Chimera G703VI. I choose the ASUS ROG Chimera G703VI. The Price for the MSI is much higher than for the ASUS but the Specs are nearly the same.

Well , if you are not just trolling (3/4 of total messages are the same), can you please post detailed hwinfo screenshot of the display panel ?

If all goes well, I will get mine next week, if by then there wont be any acceptable review with information we all want to see, I will post one myself.

Why do we get Asus reviews so late than MSI computers? GT75 or some other computers have reviews even before the release. For example GL702VI is already on the market in US for a month and It comes to several countries in Europe, but you can't find anything about that. Almost same for G703VI. XoticPC, etc has them in the stock. Why don't we get a video review from them?

Seems this beast has finally appeared in Hungary (Europe) too.
However so far only found it in stock at 1 shop and even they only have the cheaper 7700HQ model.
The price for this beast with 7700HQ here is $3350 (converted from HUF). This price is with 27% tax (yep, Hungary has this high tax). If I remove the tax (to see how much would it look like if it was sold in the US) the price is ~$2500.
Living in Europe is really expensive ...

This ist the Hardware Specs from the Asus G703VI:

I replace the SSD (2x256GB/RAID0) and Harddrive 1TB with Samsung SSD 960EVO 256GB and Samsung SSD 850 PRO 2TB (2.5").

The Factory build in RAM is from G Skill and additional 32GB RAM is not cheap at the Moment.

This is the Display Panel Info - 1920 x 1080 Pixel.
