    Hello
I'm extremely new to all this computer stuff but I'm trying to do research and learn about it all because I don't want to end up with a crappy computer. I used to have a computer (a Dell) and it died in 2 years I was really getting into editing, online socialization, and WOW (world of war craft). I plan to do much more gaming once I get a new laptop. Like Elder scroll online, WOW again, GIMP, imvu, and anything else that catches my interest. So I've been looking at gaming laptops. Why laptops? Eh, I just like the portability; being able to take it with me where ever I go.

One laptop really caught my eyes and I'm in love with it!
    Asus ROG GL502VS
But while doing research about it, I came across a few others which were similar in name but one letter difference. For example:
    GL502VT
    GL502VY
    GL502VM
So, down to the main question.
Whats the difference between VS, VT, VY, and VM? (or is it a typo and one of them is the real v)

GL502VS has the the all new GPU pascal nVidia GTX1070m (with g-sync), meanwhile the GL502VT/VY have maxwell GTX970m(VT) and GTX980m (VY with g sync). other aspect like processor, RAM or HDD(depend on your configuration) was still the same.

    Main difference is the GPU:
    GL502VT - GTX970m 3gb/6gb
    GL502VY - GTX980m 4gb/8gb
    GL502VM - GTX1060 3gb/6gb
    GL502VS - GTX1070 4gb/8gb

After a quick look all the CPU (i7 6700HQ) were the same (but some have an option for i5 6300HQ). All have DDR4 RAM and according to the Asus website they also all have a 4cell battery... So it is not a typo and they are all real V's :p

Does anyone here have the GL502VS and is willing to share some early experiences? I am currently holding onto a pascal msi laptop and am on the fence with returning it for this one!

Ah! I see! Thank you both \^•^/ That was really helpful! So I'll stick with the VS cause it has more GTX.

Just one more question: I read that with some Asus, people bought cooling pads. Do I need a cooling pad for the GL502VS?
If so, I was thinking of this one:
Marvo FN-30 15 - 17 inch Gaming Laptop Powerful Cooling Pad with Four 120mm Fan at 1200 RPM(4 Red Fans)
It looks so sexy and stylish! But again, I don't want crap that won't work or is not needed

I just found another thing that concerns me too. This is the whole name of the laptop I plan to buy from Amazon:
CUK ASUS ROG GL502VS Gamer Laptop (Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD + 2TB HDD, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 8GB, 15.6" Full HD, Windows 10) VR Ready Gaming Notebook Computer
    What does CPU mean?
I looked it up and it said it's a DC converter that has an output voltage magnitude that is either greater or less than the input voltage magnitude.
But I don't understand what it means.

That's about 160 Fahrenheit. Is that normal?
    Thank you so much.

For a desktop GPu in a laptop at load? It's respectable.

Mine will go as high as mid 80's on some games but no throttling. Laptop temps aren't the same as desktop, My msi with an 870m hangs out in the mid 90's and never has had a problem. I'm also running my games a x2 dsr so it's really putting some stress on it.

Mine hovered around 75-80 after a couple matches in Overwatch last night, pretty impressive for a desktop GPU in a laptop form ! :)

Can anyone benchmark me the following games on this laptop?

    a) Crysis 3

    b) Witcher 3

    c) Arkham Knight

    d) Deus Ex (new one)

Also, is it portable enough to bring it everyday?

Hi guys. I have one question with my GL502VKS which I am not sure is a problem or not.
While heavy gaming only my left fan (I assume that is my GPU fan) spins unless I set the fan speed manually to 100% in ROG gaming center. At 100% the second fan starts to spin but even at 99% the second fan at the right hand side stays off. Does anybody here have the same laptop? I just want to make sure my machine isn't faulty. Thanks in advance!

I'm just guessing, but my GL502VSK had a different issue where both fans spun up to 100% -- and it was fixed by updating to BIOS 303.

GL502VS is an excellent example of how to build notebooks. The most important thing here is a balanced approach to characteristics. It has a clear display with a juicy picture, a good processor, an excellent graphics card, a sufficient amount of RAM, fast drives, easy access to internal components of the system, good sound, and nice design.
The small drawbacks include the presence of two slots of RAM, the noise of the cooling system under maximum load and the marble of the aluminum panel. In the rest, it is an excellent price-performance ratio.
