According to Jarrod's Tech, the lack of a MUX and slow stock RAM are conspiring to really hurt the out of the box performance of this machine. Anyone interested in picking one of these up would be well served to get replacement RAM now as demand and prices of the better stuff are likely to increase once word really starts to spread.

Already ordered some Hyper X RAM and do far seems to be the best fit/match for AMD powered laptops

Currently on sale for $1650, that is a pretty decent deal considering the whole package.

Less so when you consider the extra $100-$200 needed for a proper RAM kit.

I'm replacing my Alienware Area 51m R1 with one of these. The ram upgrade is not a concern for me since I regardless have to upgrade to 32GB since 16GB is not enough for me. Also, most of my gaming will be done on an external larger screen, so the MUX switch thing not an issue as well. By the way, does this laptop support faster ram than 3200MHz?

This laptop will be quite a change for me since it will be my first 15in laptop since the late 2000's. I mostly have rocked 17in machines, then jumped to the G14. Maybe 15in will be my new way to go...not so big that takes too much desk space, not incredibly light nor heavy, and similar (in some aspects better) performance to my A51m.

I have one of these for review :) Been playing with it and tuning it all day.. checked the liquid metal application, etc. Loving the vapor chamber design.. Although initial thoughts is that it doesn't seem to help CPU temps what-so-ever compared to a traditional heatsink/pipe system :/ Still hits 90c+ under Cinebench R23.. Although this being Ryzen, i'm still not sure if i'm to be concerned with the CPU Core temps or if the CPU SOC is the more realistic one? SOC temps are around low 70s...

The thing about Vapor Chambers is total cooling capacity is always available to both components, unlike heatpipes where everything is very constrained.

I'm very interested in knowing how the application of the liquid metal was on your example. Seen some reviews where everything was a mess. Also, interested to know how difficult is to pull the heatsink off.

You probably already know this, but when re-assemblying the heatsink, the liquid thermalpads must be cleaned and replaced with thermal paste (using regular solid thermalpads will cause uneven contact of the cold plate, still don't know which product are manufacturers are using for this application).

There are zero thermalpads used under the vapor chamber.. It's liquid metal on both CPU and GPU and the rest of the components are thermal pasted.. The factory liquid metal looked like a mess, it was very patchy and looked like they used entirely too much, it was literally pooled unevenly on both CPU and GPU but it must have been working fine because my temps might actually be worse after re-assembling it :/ I have a feeling the vapor chamber sits unevenly because of the big thick foam barriers they use around the CPU/GPU areas.. There's also no screw tightening order that I can see so I just had to wing it myself and decide on a tightening order myself.

That being said, my recommendation is to not mess with the factory cooling setup unless you're experiencing serious cooling problems..

I have this Strix Advantage Edition vs my personal Zephyrus G15 /w 5900HS 3070 and CPU temps are probably actually better on my Zephyrus than the Strix.

I'm probably due to receive my G15 next week. Something I'm looking into is researching shunt modding since thermal headroom for the GPU seems adequate. Do you happen to have by any chance high-res pictures of the motherboard without the heatsink? I already seen a large shunt resistor on the right side next to the GPU die, but suspect there has to be others hidden beneath the heatsink (allthought maybe that large shunt resistor is the one to tackle, maybe ASUS gives it easy because they are mad lads).

Any word on expanding the BIOS to open up XMP support? It's beyond asinine this isn't already a thing on an, ostensibly, overclocked gaming notebook.

Well, so my G15 arrived today after loosing a week due to a problem during shipping. After removing the laptop from the box, realized that there was something weird on the lid, and found the following:

Apparently, the operator doing the screen assembly just mashed up one of the tabs of the bezel during assembly. Due to this, the bezel clip wasn't engaged. OFF TO A GREAT START

At least this was easy to fix, and the screen is just fine (no dead pixels or hotspots). Have to leave soon, but will check the LM application later today.

Anyone with this laptop interested in sharing FireStrike Standard and TimeSpy scores with us?
MUX bypass if possible, but with is fine too.

I got one on pre-order but it looks like really limited run might not get mine after all in August, gonna have to wait and see.

Really excited to see just how much the AMD RX 6800M can match the RTX 3080 running with 155W VBIOS.

So this is what I found on my device. Not awful, but not ideal either.

Did clean up the mess, shaved down the silicone, painted the capacitors and applied new Conductonaut + K5 Pro.

When the thing turned back on again after the process, I was incredibly relieved.

Can't do much thermal testing now because it's super hot at home, but CPU and GPU temperatures are very homogeneous under load (about 10C under load).

Here you go. Please bear in mind these scores are with Kingston HyperX Impact CL20 RAM and built-in screen.

    https://www.3dmark.com/spy/21794144 (5th best for 6800m)

Those are actually really amazing scores if thats without bypassing the iGPU.

    FireStrike Standard - Graphics
    RTX 3080 130W - 26 956 - 80% | Scar 15 G533QS Vanilla
    RTX 3080 155W - 32 222 - 95,5% | GE76 Raider Vanilla
    RTX 3080 155W - 33 736 - 100% | Scar 15 G533QS MSI vBIOS & Overclock
    RX 6800M 145W - 34 993 - 103,7% | Strix G15 G513QY Vanilla
    RX 6800M 145W - 35 006 - 103,8% | Strix G15 G513QY Vanilla + better memory

    TimeSpy - Graphics
    RTX 3080 130W - 11 396 - 88,2% | Scar 15 G533QS Vanilla
    RTX 3080 155W - 12 678 - 98,2% | GE76 Raider Vanilla
    RTX 3080 155W - 12 912 - 100% | Scar 15 G533QS MSI vBIOS & Overclock
    RX 6800M 145W - 11 313 - 87,6% | Strix G15 G513QY Vanilla
    RX 6800M 145W - 11 921 - 92,3% | Strix G15 G513QY Vanilla + better memory

AMD is performing really amazing all things considered, I really wonder if its possible to overclock it even.

I have looked into overclocking, but I don't see how this is possible since MSI Afterbuner doesn't work for me.

Something now I'm trying to fix is that, on my fresh windows install on a new drive, the "Panel Power Saver" and "Overdrive" options are missing on Armoury Crate. Tried several things, but can't manage to have these options back.

Time to come back.. What is with the bios settings? i think about to buy me the G15 All AMD as well a is there something similar to get more Bios options with a key combo (like MSI kombo) or did the workarounds still work which i found to activate hidden bios setting?
or did i do to much search and asus offers everything for some ram oc and more?
Would be my first Asus Gaming Lady.

As far as I can tell, no full BIOS options on the Strix G15 Advantage Edition, only very few and very limited options on the BIOS.

Well, so I have been using this laptop with some games for a while now, and I found an issue where the games would stutter frequently for a couple of seconds. At first, I thought this was something related to drivers, but after some testing I verified this shuttering was due to overheating protection on the GPU (about 92C on the hotspot).

What is happening is that on Turbo mode, the "Platform sPPT" is set too high and fans don't ramp up high enough. This causes thermal throttling (at least for me). I have tried other profiles and found that they don't cause overheating.

I also did several tests and this is what I found:
(fps values are a paused scene of Unigine Valley, windowed, do not take these as a reference value, for comparison only)

    Silent profile:

    sPPT: 110W 57 fps
    CPU: ~57W, 4300 CB20

    Performance profile:

    sPPT: 155W 66 fps
    CPU: ~71W, 4950 CB20

    Turbo profile:

    sPPT: 180W 67 fps
    CPU: ~75W, 4960 CB20

    Manual profile (& max fans)

sPPT: 190W. Max power consumption from the GPU 175W. 70 fps
    CPU: ~80W, 5030 CB20

So, basically Turbo mode is useless (at least for games), and best is to either game on Performance or to limit sPPT to ~170W using fan profile 3. Fans at 100% do 6000 rpm, and it's total overkill (at max sPPT it's like low-mid 80s for the hotspots on both the CPU and GPU).

Currently i have an Alpha 15 B5EE here for a small Review from MSI Germany and it is a difference if you use Memory with the 22 timing or 16-18-18 ryzen CPUs Performance is much better with this Timings. Friday is Child free evening and i can make some benches with the MSI and the Asus G15 using the ballistix maybe i can Start this evening.

I using the latest driver as well from amd for gpu it is Adrenalin 21.7.2 and for chipset 2.17.25.506.
Maybe you can use books to get a little more space between laptop and table. I can check later what i get for bench values without the laptop stand. Currently we have the coldest august since 100 years.

Just two quick ones without the Cooler Master NotePal U3 PLUS. i think it is not needed and still with my MSI external display.. did you change the lm on your device for cpu and gpu after recieving the G15? if yes maybe higher temperatures could be a reason.

The new drivers got me to 12k graphics score . Not in need to figure out if this system is a keeper or max 17 with 3080
