So the warranty usually starts when the notebook was manufactured, and usually when you buy it, it has lass than the advertised 1yr warranty.
If I register it, does the warranty start from the date of actual purchase?

Generally, the warranties start when the device is actually shipped.
-
Shipped from where?
Just got a new G53, date on the unit is 5 months ago, warranty expires in 7 months.... -
Anybody... ?
-
I would say shipped from the reseller. I remember that i managed to get something RMA'ed under warranty by providing the invoice with the exact date rather than Asus using the manufacturing date.
-
Well ASUS products have warranties starting way before you actually purchase them. Especially when you purchase a 2011 product now, you may end up with 2-3 months of warranty.
My question was, when you register it, is the warranty automatically adjusted or do you need to contact somebody else to get it properly adjusted? -
those online registration things are a joke. it's done for marketing and has nothing to do with warranty's. They use the word warranty to get you to fill out the form thinking that your not going to get support if you don't. but asus isn't going to say I see you didn't fill out your warranty, clam denied!
warranty's start on the day of purchase, regardless of when it was made. don't know who told you other wise... Corpses3 -
That is only if the product is brand new.
-
What are you talking about. Warranty starts from the date on the unit, which is probably when it was manufactured. Products can sit on the retailers shelves for months.... duh
Warranty doesn't get magically adjusted by the manufacturer when you purchase it from the retailer, now does it? -

The warranty starts from the date of purchase from a authorized re-seller.
ASUS will require a valid copy of your receipt.
The only exception to this rule is Best Buy.
Don't buy from 'Best Buy' -
ASUS never asked me for a single receipt when RMA'ing, and I've RMA'ed hundreds of units. It's done via serial number.. hello? -
And if you provide them with a proof of purchase, they will honor the warranty after the manufacturing date or if you prefer if they tell you you are out of warranty, ague with them, they'll ask you to fax them the invoice and they'll honor the warranty based on the date of purchase to an extent. I don't think they would for a product manufactured in 2005 even if you have an invoice dated from 2012.
-
Yes, that's what I've done a few times. Was wondering if any sort of registration would adjust the warranty accordingly, that's why I asked. -
Like someone else said, registration is simply a tool for marketing. You only need to show them your order receipt and they'll honor the 1-YR warranty from the date of purchase.
