What are everyone's thoughts on this laptop?

Personally, I like it. Mostly because of the thought put into the cooling solution with the additional fan blades, heat sink fins, "active airflow system", 1070 MQ, and keyboard at the bottom.

Based on the materials that have been published to date, it looks like this laptop under load will be around the high 70's to low 80's which if proves to be accurate once released, tested and reviewed by the public, would be stellar for a thin and light.

The negatives seem to be a lack of TB3 and G-Sync, aggressive "gamer" look and most of all the tiny battery. Personally, I'm okay with all this except the battery. I think they should get rid of the HDD to make room for a larger battery.

I had just purchased my GM501 a couple weeks before I first saw the S and I think had I known about it, I still would have bought the M. Personal preference but I was not going to buy a notebook without a hard numpad. The 1070 was also attractive over MQ version. Bezels don't annoy me.

Most importantly, the thermals are great after undervolting. Prior to undervolting CPU to -125mv stress testing and long intense gaming could reach 91C momentarily. After undervolt I'm getting load temps in high 70's to low 80s as you mentioned. Stock paste.

With the keyboard moved down as with the original, and the MQ GPU, I can see you achieving even better thermals!

I'm seriously considering the GX531. If it had G-sync switchable with optimus like the Zephyrus M, I'd 100% get it.

As it stands, I'm still seriously considering it.

Big + points for me that I'm hearing are heavily enhanced cooling system that achieves 70-low 80s CPU and GPU temps, roughly 4+ hours battery life (double the GX501 on the same battery) and super well built all metal chassis.

I'm a touch worried about the next gen cards affecting value but I think the fact that a few manufacturers are dropping new coms now means that next gen laptops are still at least 4 months away.

I would really be interested in one if it came with next gen GPU’s.
I like the new thin bezel look and I think I’ve read this model will be much more affordable over the old M model.
Currently it’s up for preorder at Amazon for $1899.

Had me excited until I saw this:

Shared heat sink. Not for me.

Paul's Hardware had an Asus rep on his channel where the laptop was discussed in detail. Below is a link of them looking at the cooling solution (the title of the video is a bit deceptive as it's marketing material for the laptop). Nonetheless, there's quite a bit of information about the laptop that's presented.

    -

It has both shared and separate heat pipe assemblies for the CPU and GPU. I'm eager for the laptop to be released and tested. I really want to know how the cooling system actually performs. Most of the time I'm quite disappointed once a product is released as the hype never matches reality. I'm hoping this will be an exception...

Very good temps but like I said above I’ll be waiting for 20xx series GPU’S.
Hopefully that’s sooner rather than later, I really like the new look with thin bezels.
One wish is making a 17” variant with thin bezels and adding a bigger battery.

I decided to go for it with the Amazon deals and have it on pre-order with priority shipping. Will post impressions once I get it

They only upgraded the RGB lightings, bezel and a thinner chassis. Specwise, its a downgrade, MaxQ, no TB3, no Gsync. I want the thin bezel but theres too much to sacrifice, I'm getting the Zephyrus M over this.

    Mine will be here tomorrow.

Don't need thunderbolt 3 and if I get about 3 hours of battery life just browsing I'll be happy.

I bought this with the high hopes of finally finding a gaming laptop that will have 0 issues with thermals. Fingers crossed.

Did you get it yet? Would like to learn how temps and fan noise is while gaming.

I received mine a week ago, I THINK THIS IS A GREAT LAPTOP, be Very Cautious opening it up!!! All kinds of Flex cables. I updated to a Samsung 970 1TB. I'm going to add the new IC Graphite Thermal Pad, from Innovation Cooling. I'll do this with my GM501GS as well
