If the light on the power brick is blinking it is an indicator of a bad motherboard.

If the light on the power brick is off then change the power brick.

If the light on the power brick is on then check and wiggle the cord in the laptop and see if it is even charging.

The one question that I'd like to ask is what exactly happens when you hit the power button. Do you have any lights at all?

The light on the power supply is on but the minute that I plug it into the computer is goes out. I tried turning on the computer with the power button but nothing happens. When I pull the power cable out after a few minutes the green lite comes back on on the power supply. The laptop does nothing. I have no other way to charge the battery or another power supply to try it out. Is there any other way for me to know if the power supply is bad or the motherboard? Thanks for you help.

I would put my money on the motherboard im afraid could be one of many things here are few things to try.

    - Remove the battery as it could be a bad cell and try again
    - Remove all components, RAM, HDD, DVD player and Cell and try again
    - If you are able to try another adaptor and see if that makes a difference

If all of the above fail it could be a shorted board, I have also heard of the same instance in which the pin that you plug into is either broken causing the short when you plug the charger in. I would doubt its the brick itself but if you can test with another its worth a go. I guess you have no warranty so if all else fails you either strip it and take a look yourself for any burns or possible faults on the motherboard and check all of the cables.

Otherwise pop it into a repair shop, or consider a new model. :) Good luck.

Just tried the things that you suggested and no joy!!! Guess I will have to go out and get a replacement. Time to upgrade anyway. Thanks for the input. :)

Sorry to hear that fella, sometimes it is a blessing in disguise though the G50 was a good model but GDDR3 and C2D/Q are beginning to be a little old skool, with Skyrim and BF3 approaching its a good time to do some research and decide on something new and shiny ;)

You could pop it into a repair shop but it could cost more than its worth. Ebay it as faulty and treat yourself.

Got my motherboard repaired, my question is since I will replace my hard drive can I just do a W7 full install, or do I have to put vista on first. I just hate vista?

    Chastity,

I need the drivers for a G50VT-X5. Also would you pls tell me the sequence of installing them? I know that there has to be a certain sequence in order for everything to work. Any assistance would be greatly appriciated.

Unfortunately, I do not have a G50 Driver CD. I got involved with Asus with my G73JH. For now, I would suggest getting the drivers from ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- and punch in your model "G50VT"
