Quick scenario, I have a Gateway p173x that I was in the process of upgrading. I changed the lid to the later 79XX graphic and the Lcd to a 1920x1200. On Friday I stumbled upon a great deal on a used Asus G71gx-05 (Best Buy) so I bought it. Being that the specs are better on the Asus I will be keeping that one and selling the Gateway. My question is: Are the Lcds compatible? I would love to swap the new Lcd into the Asus if possible. Thanks.

If they both use the same backlight (CCFL or LED) and the data connector (LVDS) is in the right place, yes they're compatible. I don't know the specs of the Gateway but chances are they are both CCFL, and a swap will work just fine.

Thanks, I was just trying to avoid opening everything up to check.
