There is a lot of room in the G72 HDD bays, anyone try mounting a Velociraptor in one?

I think they are extinct. But if you find one, let me know. I've always wanted to ride one.

If you get a 2.5" one, you should be able to fit it. Since there have been no replies other than mine, I'll assume no-one has done this.

Aren't they 15mm and generate a massive amount of heat?

Velociraptors are kind of a joke for laptops. They consume more power, and heat, and are slower than a SSD, which is the opposite. (Faster, less power, heat)

Yep. 15mm and high power. At 10K this would get very hot in a laptop.

Did it for a lark, fits and works well. Only slightly warmer than my 7200rpm.

I wish I had a Velociraptor... I'd ride it to work and feed it some of my co-workers.

Really, which model and what were you running? In the server these have heat sinks surrounding the entire 2.5" drive.

    Cheers,

We tried it once. Removed the heatsink and installed on a clevo. Raised the overall temps in the entire machine gpu/cpu by 14 degrees.

It's a WD1500BLFS without the HS. The speed isn't worth it btw. :)
