Hi, i've just bought a new hard drive (formatted), insterted, installed windows 7 clean, and now the whole unser interface is completely different to what it was when it came out of the factory with the old hard drive.
Was just wondering how to get it back to normal?
-
what do you mean "back to normal"?
-
Do this...

You need to do that part regarding the Asus Driver disk install, it will install everything you need very easily. -
Back to normal, i mean just crisp and clear looking interface? I have no more power for play (just alanced and power saving), no synamptics touch pad, nothing like that. The display now just looks...simple, like its out of a Sega Megadrive or something.
ValkerieFire: regarding the asus driver disc install, i do not have any discs, as none came with the laptop. All i had is a windows 7 CD i burned myself with my own legitimate product key for home premium. Other than that, i have nothing. Any ideas? Can i download anything from anywhere to mak the UI better again? Also the pointer seems to be sticking a lot more than it used to. -
Use this link to download the Asus Driver DVD .iso

Then follow the instructions here...

You don't want install everything on the Asus DVD, just what is recommended, or you can add or subtract based on your preferences, but this is good place to start. The disk also includes the track pad driver so that will fix your pointer issue. -
, thats why everything looks worse. Just do what ValkerieFire said and you'll be fine
-
Cheers guys
over already installed windows so don't think I need to do the complete walk through...? Drivers are helpful though
. One thing. So I need to update my bios again?
-
Take it back get a decent SSD thank me later.
-
as helpful as that was(n't), my issues now is with the bios
cheers for any help ,
anyone else?
@ ValkarieFire - do you have another link to that Asus Disc Utility download? That one i've tried several times, gets to about 8 percent and then stops :S -
Nope, it worked for me. I'd check your connection or try using a downloader program (like down them all). Internet explorer has issues with large downloads.
Use search to find GSOD thread and problems issues thread (they are stickies too). That will fix your bios. -
If you've updated your BIOS previously, there is no need to do that again. That is something that is flashed to the SRAM on a motherboard chip. Windows installation does not affect it in any way. -
Thanks for that Jody, very helpful! ALl complete now and installed the recommended utilities etc. Only prob now is that i can't play any of my games. If i use my steam back up files to reinstall eg CIv 5 for example, i cant play cos when i open the app it says it has a missing dll file. D3dx9_42dll to be exact. Does this with all my games that i try to either 1) Back up onto my new HDD from my external hard drive (where i saved the back ups) or 2) if i try to move my game from my old internal HDD which is in another slot, to my new (Main) HDD.
EDIT: Also things like the backlight short key doesnt work (Fn + F3 , F4) and the Twin Turbo button short keys for volume etc :S -
ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities
The latest version can be found at
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- -
CHeers, i tried installing but it says i have a version installed already (perhaps from my old hard drive?), however even though it's apparently installed, i still cannot utilize the hotkeys. Any tips on that and the games too?
-
You need to reinstall the games on your main drive (or whatever drive you want them on). When games install they place certain .dll files in windows. If those files are not present they won't work. I don't know where your files are, the easest way to fix it is to reinstall the game where you want. You can just copy your saved game files over once you are done (My Documents/My Games/CIV5/Saves/Single/ or something to that effect). This is why you cannot just copy a backup of the game off a different harddrive (and one reason why pirated games need to be hacked). If you install windows 7, use the Asus DVD, and follow ALL the steps in the Fresh reinstall thread, everything should work fine.

LOL
Your question is: Why does my clean install, with no extra programs or settings set up, look like there are no extra programs or settings set up? -
Nope, my question was, and still is, which programs is it that i need to install to utilize the likesof the hotkeys and turbo boost button etc. I have installed the ATKACPI hotkeys program, and it still doesnt work. Fixed the game problem thanks
K, actually i have managed to sort out Fallout 3 (before i downloaded the Direct X update via <MarkS> link, however i have now tried the same for metro 2033 and now i get a PhysXLoader.dll error.
Says its missing, when as in actual of fact i have the .dll file in the same drive, and the same partition as the game.... any suggestions?
