I was thinking of selling my G60 for $550-$600 on craiglist and using the money I was gonna spend on upgrading my g60 to just buy a g73 refurbished. I keep reading the g73 has a lot of problems however, have they been fixed? Or are those problems you fellas can help me fix?
Also would it even be worth it? My g60 runs like a champ, would the g73 run like a champ x2? lol Just want some friendly opinions from you fellas is all... thanks in advance.
oh, one more thing, any word on the g74? I'm not wanting the g74, however I am wanting a g73 for a lower price![]()

No, I'd say not. The only reason I'd upgrade would be reliability, but given that your g60 has lasted this long, I wouldn't bother.
But if you're going to spend the money otherwise, the g73 is awesome, and has even less problems than the g60. Especially if you have a g60j/jx. -
Ive had a few quirks here and there, with booting up, and a black screen that takes forever! lol but really other than that, I went through crysis and that other crysis game, the one where your the other dude... I forget. Any way I was able to play them on medium high, becasue of my screen res I think.. no problems..
I have shogun total war 2 I wanna play, but I dont know how well my g60 will do...you guys think $550-$600 is a good and fair price for a great condition G60? Or should I go lower?
if the refurb g73 is $1000 I sell my g60 at $550 it wont be that much to upgrade.. and I was gonna spend some money upgrading my g60 cpu, HD, and ram so that would pretty much be the money to upgrade... -
I was in the same boat as you but I had the G70S which had the finest workmanship I had ever seen in a laptop it was a rock although it had old 8700's in SLI and couldnt give the power I needed.
I traded it in for 500 pound sterling and picked up the G73 for 600 and then spent another 100 maxing it out. I found that the G73 had a fantastic increase of power over the G70S but didnt come with its problem free fantasticness!
I have had the G73 a month now and finally got to the bottom of all the niggly little problems upgraded to 8gb ram and added an extra HDD, repasted the CPU and GPU and factory reset W7 and all drivers.
It now runs like a dream and overall considering only spent 100 pound for the upgrades and the time I put into fixing it not only I enjoyed but was worth it the I7 is a beast and the 5870m has amazing performance. (I find dissassembly is a must with most laptops its good to know the ins and outs of it)
Looking at your specs in the G60 you dont really need the upgrade however if you are looking to maybe future proof for the next few years you will benefit from DX11 multi threading etc but the power the G60 has is more than sufficient and it looks as though it has similar workmanship to my G70s so I only recommend upgrading if you dont have to spend much more to do so.
Overall im happy with my G73 it leaves my old laptop in the stone age. Looks aren't everything -
does it really run cooler, or is that fan in the back just for show?
-
On the G73? If so it has two separate fans one for the GPU and CPU. After I have repasted my I7 hangs around 50oC and my GPU 48oC and maxing 78oC its ultra quiet when idling upto 70oC and even when the fans are on full throttle they are still very quiet. The cooling is excellent.

Would this be a good deal? Have all the problems like the graphics card stability issues been taken care of?

again can you link me the page on the Best Buy website, I need to see the specs.
-
its a craiglist deal
-
IMO, the RBBX05 is only worth $800 tops if it's brand new these days. It's pretty old tech, so it's not worth much anymore.
I'd only pay $700 for a second hand G73JH-RBBX05. -
Really? where could I find one for that kinda cash??
-
yes its a good deal, its not old tech, its just not up to date anymore but you can still run anything you want, all problem have been solved with a fresh install and up to date drivers and bioses
Try to find an RBBX05 for 800$ new tax included and youve got some good contacts. This laptop is very good, for the price its listed at, you cant get better -
$900 is a lil too much for JH Best Buy version if it is refurbished.
-
i wouldnt buy a second hand gaming laptop refurb is one thing but if not then id pass
-
I just can't seem to find this laptop any lower.... Ive been looking
-
I know when I first put some music on my g60 I was extremely disappointed... Does the g73 suffer from the same?

It has the same sort of main stereo speakers, but has an added 'subwoofer' which adds some midrange. It's therefore a bit better than the G51/G60 speakers.

With a little help from DFX and some Realtek tweaks, it sounds pretty good for a laptop. DFX is a must though, makes a world of difference.
-
i just can't understand why did you start this thread...can't you see that someone can buy it before you
it's great offer and will attract everyone's attention -
$900 for a RBBX05 isn't bad but it isn't amazing either. It still a great laptop. I wouldn't call it old tech, actually it hands the new G73SW-BST6 it's own arss on GPU tasks
. The problem is finding one that is in good condition.
Ask the owner these questions.
When did you buy it? Do you have the receipt? If it is less than 1 year old the warranty is still good. Check the MFR date on the bottom, even without a receipt it could still have a warranty if it is less than 1 year. Make sure it isn't a refurb!
Have the owner let you run furmark for 10 minutes while plugged in. If it overheats, negotiate the price down. I did this on mine, got the price reduced from $1000 to $750! After running furmark, check the bios version. If it is 209 or earlier, a simple bios update would lower temps a lot. If you really want to test it's stabilty you could run OCCT for 10 minutes just to test the CPU, but no one has issues there.
IF the laptop is in PERFECT working order, then $900 is fair value, I've thought of selling mine and I wouldn't take less than $900 (preferably $1000), but mine IS perfect and has 4 months of warranty left.
If you buy it, I wrote a tutorial on updating everything on a JH, see the link in my signature, that will bring yours up to speed quickly. -

@no1up I've merged a few of your threads with G73 questions together into this one, please don't create a new thread for more G73 questions, ask them here. Thanks in advance.

Got it at $875 he should be getting with me today
-
It's an a great deal. The price has gone down by 1/2 since it was introduced last year? Awesome price.
-
becouse i saw in the thread someone was asking for a link ... i would not be happy if i tell this offer to someone and he buys it before me for even lower and sell it for higher or sth similar
btw ALLurGroceries what do you think about creating seperate threads for the JH,JW series (i mean we are a big community and it will be more organised - just a suggestion) (personally i am only interested in the JH series thread but i see all kinds of threads

Lol thats what happens with pcs! I bought a MacBook pro use it for 3 months and sold it for $200 more than what I paid... lol gotta love mac, but mac doesn't have a monster GPU like the G73hehe

Apple has updated their MBP once.
So yes, your last gen, 1 year old MBP will have more value, because it isn't significantly different than the year old, 4 generations back asus.
I hope that clears things up. Apple doesn't hold value because it is better. It holds value due to a combination of artificially restricted supply and consumer software preference. The hardware is identical. Also, I think that some people buy apple so that they can heat their home. Even if it has a significantly worse GPU, it still gets hotter than the g73 does. Anyways, it's a good thing companies like ASUS will force prices lower for commodity parts. Because when apple picks up those commodity parts, they're significantly lower for the apple fans due to their widespread adoption elsewhere. Probably another reason why apple is always a generation or two behind when it comes to technology refreshes. -
If i had based purchasing the G73 on the problems others have had i would not have my Epic G73. I have had ZERO issues with my g73 after properly updating the vbio, bios, and a few other main things. I haven't re-pasted or anything that involves taking my laptop apart either. Games run perfect with no stability issues.
The problem is all these people buy computers with out knowing the proper ways to install/uninstall drivers efficiently and cleanly. Therefore posting on the forums with problems solved by simple searches involving simple fixes.
Anyways if you like what it can do then buy it. You will be very happy. -
