    Hey Kalim, Thanks Again.

Chronicles Of Asus : Escape From G73JH - The Old Testament - Part 1 !
I Got The Machine About A Month Ago.

    Core i7, 720QM
    6GB DDR3
    ATI HD 5870 1GB ... ( 012.017.000.004.035992 Video Bios Version Identified By GPU-Z )
    .
    .
    .
    Win 7 64Bit Home Premium
    All Drivers Installed
( 868.300 ) ATI HD 5870 Mobility, Default Graphic System Driver Software.

I Turned The System On The First Day, And After Booting Up, I Tried Making The Backup DVDs. ( 3 Discs ) Succeeded.
There Were No Problem At All With The Machine In Windows 7

    The Second Day.
Tried To Install The First Game : GTA IV. Succeeded
Ran The Game For The First Time, No Problem At All.
    Quited Game In 10 Mins.
Re-Ran The Game In 20 Mins From The Begining, In The First Game Demo,
After 40 Secs I Got The First Gray Screen With The Striped Horizontal Lines.
Completely Freezed, I Shut It Down And Rebooted It.
    Ran The Game Again.
Played To The End Of The Day.
    No Major Problem Showed Up.

The Third Day To The 14th Day >> Not Even Touched The Machine.

    14th Day :
Ran The GTA IV, Crashed+Completely Freezed ( The First Gray Screen With The Striped Horizontal Lines. ). Hard Shut Down. Started The Machine Again.

Ran That Again, Crashed+Completely Freezed.( The First Gray Screen With The Striped Horizontal Lines. ) Hard Shut Down. Started It Again....

Tried To Install The FIFA09, Crashed+Completely Freezed At Installing FIFA09 When I Tried To Insert The Second Disc For FIFA09. ( The First Gray Screen With The Striped Horizontal Lines. ) Hard Shut Down.

    * White Horizontal Lines.

I Waited 15 Mins And Left The Computer Alone. ( I Was Insulting My Luck With Very Bad Language )

    Started It Again...
    Started To Install FIFA09, Succeeded.
After That I Ran FIFA09. I Started A Match. And After Listening To The Ref's Whistle ( To Start The Match ) , BOOM, Crashed+Completely Freezed.
( The First Gray Screen With The Striped Horizontal Lines. )
    Hard Shut Down...

    Days Afterwards...

First Updated The BIOS From 206 To 209.

Tried To Install 3DMARK06 And Ran The All Tests At Max Details.
No Problem At All, For The First Time, I Wan Those.

    Turn The System Off.

    Hours Later...

    Start The System.

Ran 3DMARK06 ,Take The Graph Test Again, Boom Again.
    Crashed+Completely Freezed.
    Hard Shutdown.

    The Day After.
Installed Furmark, And Test The System With High Details And Burning Mode Enabled. After 5-7 Secs BOOM. Crashed+Completely Freezed.
But The First Crash Was Gray Blah Blah And Vertical Lines.
Done The Common Process And Booted Up Again.
Took The Test Again And Crashed+Completely Freezed...
But This With Orange Screen And White Vertical Lines.

Tried To Uninstall And Reinstall Many Many Graphic System Driver Software.
At Last...Uninstalled The 868.300 And Installed ATI CATALYST 10.5 And Ran The Furmark Again.
Complete Test With Burning Mode Enabled (FurMark_v1.8.2)
I Left The Test To Continue Until GPU Reached Approx. 96 - 97 Degrees.
The Machine Worked Nicely Through The 15 Minutes Of Hard Furmark Test.
    No Crashes.

I Finallly Saw The Rays Of A Little Candles Lights.... Hope...

    But I Was Wrong...
Got Into GTA IV And The Screen Faded To Black Like The Time You Expect The Game To Show Up After 2 Or 3 Seconds.
    But It Didn't.
    B.o.o.m.
Crashed Again But Not The Grey Screen With The White Horizontal Stripes...
    Just The Blank Black Screen,
    Shut It Down Hard!!!! :)

    After Starting It Up Again,
I Got Into The Need For Speed : Prostreet V1.0
    Same Thing Happened ...

I Didn't Even Saw The Games Menus Again ...
    Oh...

That Hapened Because I Read That In The Forum.
    As I Multi-Quoted. And The Noob Fact Of Mine ! :D ;)

I'm So Going To Try That!

Shall I Uninstall All The Creative Softwares And Drivers ?
I'll Be Thankful If You Tell Me what Exactly Should I Remove And How.
Thanks Kalim , I Mean It.

I Got One Another Question ?
Have You Got This Kinda Problems With Your Computer ?
And Did You Solved It? Or Anyone Have Solved It Untill Now ?
Cause I Know That You Know Very Much About G73JH Problems And You Know Many People Who Had These Problems.
Are You Notebook Is Functioning Well Without Having It RMAed ?
Is This Problem Related To Bad GPU And Needs To Be RAMed And The Fact That I Can't Do That So I Simply Kill Myself Or Maybe I'm Just Wrong And
It's Better For Me To Be Quiet?
Or It's Just A Hardware And Software Kinda Conflicts...
    Or Simply
    Can It Be Solved ?

    Sincerely.
    :)

    Hey People.
I Know That What I Told Before Is Massive Post, But I'm In A Really,
    Bad Situation.
As I Said, There Is No Way I Could RMA This Damn Masterpiece... ( Sorry For Impoliteness ).
    I Don't Understand This.
Why A S U S Have To Build Something That Is This Way.
    I Knew I Shouldn't Bought This.
Please Kalim Or Anyone Else Who Is Interfering With This Kinda Problems.
    Any Help Will Be Appreciated.

    Sincerely.
    Hobourg.

I've noticed that microsoft security essentials can sometimes cause problems with certain types of sounds, if you've got MSE installed, try disabling it.

I haven't replied back because I'm still waiting to hear if what I previously mentioned provided any relief. As to how to remove Creative; go into "Programs and Features", sort by "Publisher" and uninstall anything Creative.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but if you install the 9.12 drivers and you are still getting GSOD issues, then it's likely that the GSOD issue may only be resolved with an RMA. I'm just saying, so be prepared.

    Hey Kalim.
    Thanks For The Reply !
I'm Done With The Creative Uninstalling Process, Though The Stuff Was More Like " Should I Uninstall The Driver Too ?? " Kinda Question, But Anyways I'm Done With That.

I Think There Is Some Missunderstandings, Because I Suppose My System Is Originally Included With The 868.300 Driver That Can Also Be Found, With The Name " VGA_WIN7_64_868300.zip " In A S U S Support Site.
    More Info :

    Version V8.683.0.0
    243.06 (MBytes)
    2010/01/29 update
    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
    VGA Section

I've To Say That I'm Insisting That This Driver Was Installed On My System From The First Moment.
And I Didn't Thought That Uninstalling And Reinstalling Process Could Have Been In Any Help. As I Said Before I've Done That Anyways.

I Completely Uninstalled The "Creative Suite Blah Blah" From System And Done A Reg. Search For The Remainings And Cleared Them Out.
But For The " http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/487583-g73jh-display-driver-update-step-step-newbie-tutorial.html " Process, I Have To Say That I've Done It Completely, But It Was Not So Much Of A Use For Me.

I'm Prepared Kalim. As They Say " There Is No Color Darker Than Black ".
You Know Kalim, The Thing Is That I Just Saw The Other Owners Of This Malfunctioning Notebook, Tried Many Other Things And Maybe Some Of Them Worked.
So If You Knew Any Other Links Or Forums That Can Lead To An Answer Just Say.
    Thanks In Advance.

    Regards.

I reviewed this notebook for weeks before buying oddly enough i never heard the negative things with teh striped screen of death, black screen of death and white screen of death. Untill 2 after i bought it when i did a Google search.

i removed the creative set driveres and reg entries and the system has run great teh past two weeks, untill today. there was no crashes at all in teh past two weeks and after my land lord bought a new wireless modem for teh houses, my computer has crashed maybe 7 times today and the old usb mouse stops working as well. I dont see how a new wireless modem would cause this conflict, but i removed everything ati wise on my system, upgraded to teh new driver set out last week and reboot and while browsing not even gaming i get teh white screen of death.

so am i left to deal with the harassment of returning this notebook to asus, apparently i cant go to teh 3rd party asus supported shop beside my house cause i bought it at best buy...

is there something dodgy about best buy i don't know, do they purposely buy equipment with known issues?

any new insight behind why this thing of beauty , kinda sucks balls.

I've had my ASUS G73 crash/lock-up when accessing Ease of Access Center. I've tried this sequence and it seems to work fine now:

    1. upgrade realTek driver to latest R2.49 I think.
    2. create a Restore Point
    3. go to support.creative.com and click on sound blaster, then go to the bottom where it says "If your product is not listed above" click there.
    Select Audigy, then Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED MB, click next;
Download the Creative Sound Blaster audio driver 1.04.0090; run it, don't click next coz it won't install; instead leave it open so you can access the decrompressed archive in c:\windows\temp\CRF-000. Go there and to the sub-folder drivers and run setup.exe to upgrade the WDM Creative driver.

Once this is done, restart the machine. Mine works OKAY now on the Ease of Access Center with the synthenised voice not locking up the machine.

Now that solves one lock-up problem... now another...

Okay... now does anyone know why my G73 freeze when restarting Win7 ( this happens before my updating the EAX driver)? Cold start or hibernate start is fine... but when restarting... 50% it will lock on the Windows 7 boot screen with the hard drive access light on solid blue.

Am I to understand you forced installed an audio driver for a computer which has no Creative/SoundBlaster hardware and you are asking why it's locking up? ;)

aah... the G73 already did the locking up at restart before I forced install anything :)

And yes, the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy HD EAX HD 4.0 we have in the ASUS G73 is full software emulation, there being no hardware DSP in the laptop; this is called the Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED MB product on the Creative website, I believe.

If you have heard users flashing their ASUS VBIOS with another manufacturer's to get around crashes, then this is a similar hack.

I like to keep EAX around for games that do use it so I keep it - don't care much for the other Creative applications such as MediaSource or Alchemy, etc :)

Just as a test, try disabling your startup sounds and reboot a few times. If you can do it successfully, I would guess that your clever plan for EAX may have gone awry. ;)

As I said before, I already had freezing problem with the restart prior to my replacing the EAX driver. :) so it's not related to the EAX driver update.

But I will give that a try...looks like a good suggestion.

Disabling the Windows startup sound stops my Asus G73 from freezing and the "Starting Windows" screen on soft restarting. Thanks a lot aramis109. Great suggestion :)

Now it doesn't freeze at restart and doesn't freeze when entering Ease of Access Centre. Cool!

    Hi!

So I was on pre-order for my G73 back last year, and all I can say is, wow! This lappy is amazing, I've seen it play BC2 @1080p on a 60" lcd and not even skip a beat. But with all good things bad things started happening about 6 months ago. Battling drivers was one thing but I started getting lock ups, and black screens. Eventually it wouldnt even start up, Asus had me do a hard restart (battery pulled, not plugged in and hold power button for 1 minute) after that it would start up.... BUT, then I noticed that my windows splash on start would turn grey and almost like negative colors.... ok I thought, obviously something is wrong. called asus, and they said its drivers. so reinstall windows but no drivers besides what i was told. ran great for about a month. and then I start it the other day, and my screen is now all grey, left half of the screen is vertical lines, right half is actual picture, with the grey and negative colors. LOL so now to rma. my questions are these:

are they going to give another a1 model back?
and do you think that this is drivers like above? or does this sound like the video card was on a suicidal mission for the past few months?

ps. sry for bumpin an old post

this is kind of what my problem is, except the left hand of the screen has vertical lines that move up and down.... yes i know the video card is pooched... please re-read my questions.

    link here to see...
YouTube - ASUS G73JH DEAD! Failed Card!

    edit to rephrase my questions:

    1. when i rma it, are they going to just replace the video card? or will they ship me a refurb? will it be the same model? (g73jh-a1)
    2. could this problem have been caused by drivers? i obviously was experiencing failures about 8 months ago, but everything seemed to get worse. re read prev post for back story.

my biggest concern is that they will just chuck it and ship me a refurb, but i explicitly want the 5870. not the nvidia.

the tech guy couldnt tell me anything, but suggested i pull my memory, cause i bought them as upgrades.

Have you updated your vbios so you can even use the newer drivers?

That video looks like the PSOD problem, which from what I recall was a hardware flaw with the screen, or some other component, not GPU, but here Ill just answer your questions

    1. They will replace what they have to and send the exact same laptop back, so yes it will be YOUR g73jh a1
    2. 99% sure its hardware, so no.

EDIT: Yeap here it is, read its description
