    So, here we go again.

The one thing that has always been bothering me aside from the gsod thing (which a bios update fixed perfectly), is the audio.

    This is my current situation.

    a) only using laptop

    - Works perfectly, sound comes out of all speakers (incl. subwoofer) and things work well.

    b) Using laptop hooked up to a screen through dvi (hdmi -> dvi switch).

    - Works perfectly, sound comes out of all speakers, or headphones, depending on what I use.

    Now for the problem:

    c) using laptop hooked up through hdmi to a TV. TV set to receive digital signal (hdmi).

    - The little audio icon shows "No Audio Output Device is installed". No sound comes out of anything.

    d) using laptop hooked up through hdmi to a TV. TV set to receive analog signal.

    - Audio works, the icon still has the little red X and says "No Audio Output Device is installed". But windows sounds work, and anything done in a browser works (grooveshark, youtube, all work perfectly). Any sounds from programs (games, vlc, foobar) don't work though, they give playback error or simply stay silent.

I honestly don't care how the sound goes from my computer to the TV, through hdmi or jack, but I'd like ALL audio to work, not just things in a browser.

    Can anyone help?

What speaker config are you using? It should be set to 2.0

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with how to find that out.

You hit the white speaker icon with a right click, and select Playback Devices. You should have one for HDMI Out. Check the configuration of the Speaker Layout.

Also, make sure you have the latest Realtek HDMI audio driver installed per the Chastity driver reference page. It sounds like there may be some issue with your HDMI audio drivers.

Mine works just fine playing audio via HDMI (although I generally have to change my default sound device to my HDMI audio device).
