Any ideas on how to fix?

Have you made any hardware changes to the laptop since it began happening? or any major software changes?
First you could booting pressing F8 and select Last Known Good Configuration and see if that fixes it. Also you can run a memory diagnostic to see if that is the problem.
Finally try running HDtune and check the health of your harddrive as a failing drive could have buggered the OS. -
I have made no hardware changes. Software wise, I have made a lot... I'll start back about 3 weeks ago. I tried to play some of my steam games, but it kept giving me an error. Then, I found out that steam wasn't working at all. I tried the windows "repair" option and it gave me an error as well. Finally, I uninstalled (which uninstalled all of my games but I still had the icons/firewall permission/ etc) and then I re-installed it and re-downloaded all of my games. But, during this time, I also installed the windows 8 developer preview as a dual boot. After that froze my computer a bajillion times, I uninstalled it. So, now I was left with steam that had just been re-installed and my regular windows 7. THEN, I kept getting a TON of bsods all the time. But, the weird thing is, a lot of them kept pointing to my graphics card display driver. Then, this week I downloaded BF3 open beta and it told me to upgrade my graphic card's drivers first. I tried but it failed to install the display driver and told me there was errors. After looking up a fix, I uninstalled it in safe mode then re-installed. It didn't really work. Then I MAJORLY BSODed and had to do a system restore from the previous day. THEN, I tried to update the driver again and it said it was successful. But then, just before I posted the first post, it did it again. That's the whole backstory and so I have no clue what is actually causing the BSOD.
Btw, I did try the HDtune and it said the HD's health was fine with no errors either. -
After doing all of that I will highly recommend backing up and reinstalling your OS from scratch, most of the stuff you have done is fine but the system repair and restore to a previous date facility has OS death written all over it.
You could go through the error logs and try and hunt down and fix the cause but personally if things arent working right and the ''last known good config'' option does nothing you cannot beat a good OS reset I do it on a regular basis to keep things running nice and smooth. Im 99% sure that will fix your BSOD problem if you can put up with the fact you have to reset your OS to the way you like it and reinstall all updates etc..stay away from restore to a previous date it sux. -
Do you have updated bios and vbios, as well as service pack 1?
-
I'm guessing something got borked with your video driver, but that is only a guess and you probably had problems before that to begin with. With everything that went wrong, i would also reinstall windows. Hopefully, you have an image of a clean install of windows 7. You could try a restore from 3 weeks ago before all your problems started if you still have a restore point dating that far back. I'll ask the obvious, have you scanned for viruses/malware.
-
@yupitchie Ummm... I actually have no idea.... I'm not quite sure where to find out.. As sad as that is XD.
@tijo Yes I have, it's for sure not a virus/malware.
I just want to thank you guys for replying! It really means a lotEven though my computer might be screwed anyway, you guys are a lot of help. The only options for my laptop now might be to either 1)go into safemode and uninstall the display drivers and then install the newest and see if that fixes the problem 2) Try an older system restore or 3) Attepmt to re-install windows 7. The only problem with that is I never got a win 7 disk... Does my laptop automatically have the "disk image" stored somewhere?

Hey guys. I just thought I'd inform everyone how my laptop is doing. I would first like to say that I DID fix the problems BUT there was a TON of errors and hours spent fixing stuff before I finally found out how to successfully restore everything. OK, to start, my computer froze on me whilst doing homework and it was the last straw for me! So, I decided that the graphics card was my primary target for fixing. So, I started by booting normally and downloading my graphics card drivers updates. Next I booted into safe mode and attempted to update/uninstall my drivers BUT, everytime I tried, I'd get an error saying that there was a "Driver Detection Error" or something. No matter what I tried, nothing worked. I decided it didn't matter to wipe it so I used Driver Sweeper by Phyxion.net. It is free so it was the most useful. I selected my AMD driver to analyze then clean. After the clean sweep, I rebooted into safe mode again (F8 at the start up)(if you boot normally, Windows will tell you there's a critical error and to either system restore or re-install the OS, so GO INTO SAFE MODE). After I was in safe mode, I attempted to re-install the AMD drivers and still got the same errors. SO, I looked it up and attempted to re-install Microsoft redistributable 2008 sp1 because that supposedly would be the problem with the install. I tried to but, oh look, it was corrupt. BUT, I couldn't repair/uninstall it because the windows installer "couldn't be access" or something. So, I tried to fix it. Long story short, I couldn't use it in safe mode (I think). BUT, I did manage to download microsoft fix it which did fix a lot of driver/registry errors. So, that had to help some! Anyway, I next rebooted into "Low Resolution" mode. HERE, I was able to install the AMD driver successfully (excluding catalyst contol center which still gives me a fixable error). THEN, I was able to repair the Microsoft Redistributable 2008 SP1 and rebooted. BOOM! Now my PC is running smoother than before, there is no random freezing/crashing/bsoding/can't-shut-down-ing anymore! So, there is the fix in case your drivers are screwed. I did some other stuff in there that fixed some problems in the system but I do not remember what they were. But this should be a good fix. Anyway, thank you for your guys' help and here is an unofficial fix for people experiencing similar problems.

Glad you could fix your problem, i would have gone the reinstall way just to make sure everything was fixed, but that is the extreme solution. In any case, if you want to do a factory restore, press F10 (or F9, don't remember which) at boot to access the recovery partition and get back to factory settings. The next time you do a clean install, once all your drivers are installed and up to date and the system is clean of bloatware make a system image to back it up in case of a similar failure.

Download and extract or install. After doing so, check you system then post your Bios and vBios here. G73Jh should be updated to prevent BSOD or GSOD, vBios to update the video card. You also need to update your OS to SP1. -
GPU-Z is the utility you want to use to check your vbios version actually. It is indeed important as the first vbios will cause GSODs on most cards. If you need to update: http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?519-G73Jh-GSOD-Vbios-Update.

Do they need updates?
