Outside it's 30 degrees Celsius, core 0 can go up as high as 65 degrees. there others are 1-3 degrees lower.

when I ran a cpu stress test it went up to 85 degrees Celsius but never went past that
edit: it went for a few seconds up to 87, the cpu stress test is still running

ok guys I use hwinfo32 to get the temperatures
and intelburntest for the stress test.

Looking at my past data, I wonder if my process just runs hot :| Or maybe the heatsink isn't properly adjusted/I failed repasting etc
the unit was repasted once by RMA and still the CPU ran hot, once by me and it still runs pretty hot :(

anyone? used use hwmonitor or hwinfo32 or something else please!

I ran Intelburntest on my 940XM and it topped out at 81c at an ambient temp of 22c. Nothing to worry about :) .

Did you pop that 940XM in your G73 yourself? Or are you using a different machine?

well your model is more powerful, so it should heat more :D
Guess I don't have to worry since before it used to reach 90s, now I think it reaches 85 still not certain, but it seems slightly better than before

That is awesome! How'd it go for you? And that must have cost you a pretty penny - did you find a good deal or something?

When i'm converting raw images or movies the CPU lies around 95c for hours (overclocked). My previous laptop has been running at tjmax for three years now. If you ask me, anything below 85c is cold. :)

hehe, but the intel 720QM specifiations state that it's thermal limits should be 100 degrees, so 90 is pretty close to overheat and shutdown :( and for some reason my voltage is higher than the specifications, can someone check their max ? mine is 55.04 W

I'll take a quick look when I get home.

I know that the multiplier and FSB move up and down, and likely the voltage too during turbo boost. I think.

    Maybe that's normal?

I think it's normal, anyway can you check your idle temps and tell me ? :)

I paid $570 on Ebay. It's an 940XM ES (Engineering sample). It's quite easy to put in a new processor in the G73. The only problem is to remove the keyboard (sticky tape). This is actually my third computer who gets an ES CPU upgrade. And so far... not a single problem on any of them.

Spikes higher than max TDP is normal. Mine does the same for short periods. If you are interested go to page 50 (section 5.1) and read about TDP and tjmax.

    That's cool!

What's the story with engineering samples? Are those like the ones given out to reviewers to do early benchmarks on?

If I had some extra cash I'd probably give an ES a try too.

I honestly dont know, but mine was brand new and of the same core stepping as the OEM parts.

    Hello,

Here's a Wiki On Engineering Samples for CPU

Here's the Intel's Formal Doc regarding Engineering Samples

I work for an OEM - Engineering Samples are in most cases considered low quality and do not meet QA standards for testing. As such notebooks that I test which contain ES CPUs are often delegated to storage after the VIP machine with non-ES CPU is received for testing. ES Sample testing is only done as a pre-QA process and are never used for Final QA testing.

Happy XMas - Merry Holidays - In Peace and Agape,
    Trav....

I am idling at a higher temp, guess I may have to repaste again when I'll have time, after exams I guess
