I would first like to say I know there is a forum for this but I have a couple questions. My g73 was running fine when i first got it 11 months ago. However lately I have noticed it getting hotter and hotter along with freezing. Right now with only chrome running it is at 75 degrees Celsius. A couple weeks ago it would only idle at 60ish. Also I just bought the witcher 2 and on low settings it overheats in under a minute topping out at 110 Celsius and I've sen it go up to 246 degrees Fahrenheit.

My main question is would this be a problem with the thermal past on the gpu? Also I still have the bestbuy warranty so would you recommend I have them or someone else fix it? I'm tight on money so if bestbuy would do a decent job I'd prefer to go with them.

First things first, 11 months is a lot of time if you didn't clean the vents at all during that time. The first thing to do is to use an air can to blow through the vents. I suggest, you use a paper clip to prevent the fans from spinning and do it with the laptop upside down and the bottom panel removed.

Once that's done, check your temps again. It is too soon to jump to paste degradation yet.

Thanks for the reply. I never thought about cleaning the fans but I cant clean them until tomorrow. The only thing that makes me think it is the thermal paste is how sudden it all happened. Hopefully it is just dust though. I'll check back tomorrow after cleaning it.

Mikey, Just out of curiosity, what are you using to check temps? HWinfo32?
I use the gadget that comes with Hwinfo32, gives CPU,GPU & HD temps.

Actually I'm using This desktop gadget. I'm not sure how accurate it is but I have noticed the air coming out being extremely warm when it says i'm at 100 plus degrees, and cool when running at 60ish degrees.

Also would just blowing air into the fan vents clan them? I'm not sure i'm comfortable with taking my whole computer apart to clean them.

Nevermind on the above part. I reread the first reply. I thought it said with the top panel removed.

First thing tomorrow I'm going to buy an air spray can and clean it. If that works how often do you reccomend cleaning it? Thanks for the replies. I'm glad I didn't just go straight to repasting it.

YES! Thank everyone for the help. I just took off the bottom plate and blew into the vents with my mouth and it cleared a TON of dust out. I'm still buying air cleaner tomorrow but I cant believe how much just blowing in it helped. It went from 75 degrees down to 52 degrees on idle! This saves me a 2 hour drive to bestbuy to have it repasted! Thanks a ton!

FYI: The gadget was replaced with GPU Observer, which works on both AMD/NVIDIA.

Wow lol. I just spent half an hour trying to find a gadget like the one I use for my friends alienware with an Nvidia card. I had no idea they had an updated version of this one lol. Thanks!
