A new video from Asus, G74 Final
-
I assume that is going to be a 1 then where the X is if its a 2 at stock then that is quite impressive if not.. That is not good. I seem the remember the 460M pushing about similiar to that in 3Dmark11 correct me if im wrong a JW/SW user?
I would have said 2 but then looking at the breakdown of scores compared to my results in my sig its gotta be a 1. -
You know, most people (like myself) is using free version, which only runs in performance mode. But thanx anyway.
BTW, Crysis 2 in lowest settings was nice too
.
-
lol @ easy access panel for upgrades.
LIES. -
I should've test it with performance mode and here is the result:

Ken, can you do some GPU overclocking and get some results? I've managed to get the GPU on a g73sw up to 850/1600/1700 and getting in the P2400's.
-
I tried already but doesn't make huge difference, I begin to think maybe CPU is the bottleneck.
-
I think 3DMark11 just runs better on ATI cards.
I'm getting P2400 on stock 740QM+HD 5870M. -
A 2630QM is a bottleneck?! That's a new one on me.
-
Hehe, 3DM11 still not NVIDIA-optimized?
-
Ouch, perhaps 2720QM might boost the score better. I suppose.
-
It's little better with 2920XM:

I don't know the 560M doesn't seem easy to overclock out of the box, maybe the drivers still new and not fully optimize yet.
-
which drivers are installed?
-
Does the G74 support RAID?
-
The stock driver version is 268.12.
No it does not. -
I was starting to warm to the G74 for a moment but not anymore!
2*750GB HDD and no RAID support. Madness. -
I see no point in having (R)AID in a notebook.
SSD for system and maybe a HDD in secondary slot. More mass storage can be handled through external drives.
If you have a SSD you don't even think about HDD-AIDs (No, this is not a virus
).
-
So it is about the driver, installed beta driver 275.27 the results are so much better than stock driver, with stock driver there isn't really much you can do with overclocking:

Whoa nice improvement.. the max temp it reached on the benchmark is 63? That seems pretty awesome, MSI cooling is different then the ASUS g series though. I wonder how hot it gets on the g74/53
-
You can do away with Win7 built-in software RAID. For example, you can make a RAID0 partition for apps and games, and a RAID1 partiton for documents and such. Only problem is than you can't boot from a software RAID0 partiton.
Will make a guide for this soon. -
Yes you can boot from a software RAID 0 partition if you are using Windows 7.

WOA 3Gig VRam and 14Gigs RAM???
somebody please buy my G73JH -
What good will 3GB video RAM bring? I don't see of the point of using more than 1.5Gb as long as it's 192 bit memory bus. And those 12 Gb Ram is also unnecessary, I mean more RAM never hurts, but 12GB, seriously? 8Gb is already overkill for 95% of the users.
-
Nvidia just released the official 275.33 driver, could you check and see if it has any improvement ?
-
more RAM means you can load more detailed textures + still have room for triple buffering for better Vsync performance.
(and before someone says "I just turn off VSync", running VSync offers no screen tearing and triple buffered Vsync runs just as well as VSync off) -
Sure, but is there a noticable difference between 1,5gb and 3gb? It's extremely hard to utilize over 1.5-2gb on desktop cards that are much much more powerful, even with resolutions going as high as 2560x1600 with AA on etc.
-
MSI"s turnbo fan works great. G74 has new vent design so we will see if it works better than G73.
thanks and I wish they release it last night, I am downloading it right now. -
How? As far as I know, you can't. Unless you mean booting from a VHD, which is problematic. PM me if I'm wrong. </offtopic>
-
not much difference between beta 275.27 and 275.33.
Note: 275.33 didn't recognize GTX560M, I had to mod the INF.Attached Files:

Dear Ken,
I see that Asus G74SX-3DE (ETA July) is pre-order on GenTech PC. The wife will be visiting Arkansas from 17 June to 21 July. She must have it by 19 July for packing and so forth. Otherwise, we are talking overseas shipping to Oman and custom duty, which makes it too expensive.
Can you please help?
Thanks in advance. -
You can send me email.

Hi Ken,
I have opened an account with your company. I will send you an email right now at [email protected].
I am really tempted to go for this, due to time restraints:
Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G73SW-XN2 Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 17.3" 8GB Memory DDR3 1333 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
Hi Ken,
I just sent you an email. Did you get it? -
I assume he'll email you back instead of responding here.
-
@King of rapture
Agreed with Chastity. He will mail you asap. He is awesome guy to deal with.
Sorry for beign offtopic. -

Hi everyone,
Yes, Ken did email me. He is very friendly and helpful. I am glad to have found this forum, and such exceptional people like Ken and all the members who are so kind and helpful.
Many thanks!
Kind regards,
KOR!
P.S. Sorry to be off topic.
P.S. In the end, due to time constraints, I ended up buying G73SW-XN2 from Newegg.com and Ken is already aware of this. -
Hey, when's the realistic release date for the g74? My current (used VERY loosely) notebook is literally falling apart, and it might not even last until mid july...
Also, what looks to be the better notebook at this moment between this and similar notebooks like the gt780?
Also, would it be better to have the 2nd hard drive removed and replace the primary one with a better hard drive? (possible a hybrid drive) -
according to this anandtech article, the g74 also has glasses free 3d... AnandTech - Computex 2011: The ROG Releases
I though only g53 got the glasses-free variant.. -
The release date is early July, for the hard drive setup it's better to have faster hard drive on primary for faster boot time and program load time.
-
would be interesting if 3D doesnt need glasses
-
whats the cheapest g74 model? can it be 1299?
-
Probably if Bestbuy gets a water down version, probably with a crippled gpu.
