    Good day everyone
I hope I put this thread in the right place as i am new to this forum seeking any help i can get.
I have an issue with my asus laptop. I bought asus g74sx about 2 years and up untill now its been working like a charm. I am quite good with computers so i know alot about preserving them harderwise and softwarewise. However this evening suddenly my laptopt went off and i realized that the battery stopped charging. It would turn on saying the battery is charging but it actually is not. I tried several options shown on different forums with no success. What i am wondering is,shouldnt i be able to run it without the battery?i've seen alot of laptops just working like a desktop computer with no battery, plugged in directly. Currently if i remove the battery and just plug it in nothing happens and no light is on.
    Any idea?
    Any assistance is appriciated.
    Thank you in advance

Battery's no good anymore, time to replace it.
A battery's life cycle is 500 charge/discharge typically as they don't last forever. Since yours lasted for about 2 years I'd say it worked out pretty good.

Thanks for the quick respond. I suspected that. It seems that it would charge when the latop is turned off but only drain when its on. Any how. Cant i use the laptop with the battery removed? As it doesnt seem to work. I am only asking this as i have to order such battery (which takes few days) as the dont have those in local stores.
    Thank you once again.

What happens if the battery discharges totally while plugged in? If it shuts off that seems more like a power brick issue.

I am suspecting its the Charger. it seems as its gone weak...it can't power up the laptop itself on its own without the battery...it seems like its charging the battery but extremely slow and only if the computer is off...once I turn on the laptop the batter is barely holding any power so it goes off in less than a minute...I am assuming every laptop should be able to run directly on the charger however I can't run mine...it need the battery...or at least that little power that takes hours for the charger to build up in the battery.. and additionally once the laptop is on it doesn't show any particular error.

I've tried holding the power button and done some tricks that people posted on different forums..but its always the same...I will check out the charger tomorrow and have an electrician look at it, as I've been told if its the charger and if This is the explanation than it might be saved. If you have any other idea let me know. I will post once confirmed what is the issue.

    Thank you

From this, it does seem a bit like AC adapter, or power board itself.
See if you can get another AC adapter to verify whether it shows a different outcome or not.

    Good day,
I guess I can consider this thread closed. I have verified that its the adapter/charger. I'v tried using it on another laptop that is working and it behaved the same way, it just couldn't provide enough power to hold up the battery or the laptop. So basically I am getting a new charger. Unless this one is fixed (An electrician is working on it as he might be able to just replace some components and have it working).

    cheers.

Great, glad that you were able to isolate the root cause to the AC adapter.
Feel free to ask us again if you have any more questions.

Just be aware the safety specs will no longer apply after work, I don't know if it matters to you but it can impact use for work etc.

As long as you replace it with identical specification then there isn't much to worry about.
