Just got my Asus laptop and it didn't come with any discs but theirs a program called Asus recovery utility asking me to make back ups. Does that backup windows so if I want to do a clean install I use those?

It does backup windows but with all the bloatware.
I did a backup of the activation, installed a clean win from an iso then restored the activation. Later just install the Drive and Utility CD. If you don't have I assume you can just download drivers from ASUS website.

Ok also do I have to do that like does my laptop include a recovery partition? How would I use that. Id love to have a clean install but I don't want to download something and than worry about that. I just want a good install with working drivers. I'm having problems with audio.

It probably have a hidden partition, I didn't check/tried/used it yet. I recommend doing a clean install tho, there's a program that backups your windows activation and restores it on the other install in 1 (2, actually) click. You may want to check audio driver updates on some stickies to see if it solves your problem.

Sorry just new to this area. On my old one I could boot from my windows recovery disc and do a clean install than get drivers online. If I do that 3 download method or whatever than a clean install I could just dl drivers and stuff online. Also I keep reading about doing something wit activating it. I have my key do you not just type it in and.it activates online?

As long as you install w7 home premium, you can use the license code on the bottom of your laptop. If you make major hardware changes you may have to call an 800 number and verify your license is only being used on one machine.

Ok thanks. That was my major question. I guess I'll download windows 7 from that thread. Do a clean install. Activate it than get the drivers online. If that all sounds good than I'm good to go

Yeah, that's it really. The hardest part is getting all the drivers downloaded and extracted. Check the sticky if you want, and read the fresh install guides and the bloatware guide.
