Why would an ODM release such sensitive information? I'll bet this "announcement" is just a PR stunt to raise stock prices. I don't see any credible or useful info here, just 'Asus may do something in the future'. The current G series are already "performance gaming notebooks", according to Asus.

This is good news. Fewer models equals more attention to these fewer models from many dozens. As in actually rectify numerous driver issues. Like the VGA drivers, for example. Or provide fewer models to master for the (mostly) incompetent technicians that service the RMA'd laptops.

Sadly, will believe it when I see it! Asus love to market their models as high end gaming setups, they look good they perform well and they have the latest CPU so they can get away with calling it that upon release of the cards like the 560M which do perform well, but not over long periods of time. So they shout from the rooftops how awesome they are and at release they are pretty awesome.

Sadly I can see Asus adopting the 660M and nothing more but then again the next line of GPU's will be performing much higher than their current counterparts at lower power consumption and lower temperatures which in the mobile gaming world is what we all want. I doubt they will go back to MXM after going to all the effort to make sure their GPU's are reverse engineered and now part of the motherboard itself.

Its cheaper to make and prevents aftermarket upgrades making sure people upgrade when they choose by releasing a newer model.

...or the new GPUs will just be rebrands again.
Asus GPU performance has hardly increased since the 5870.

As the DIE size is set to change they wont be rebrands, although performance may not be much different.

    Time will tell :)

Sorry to say this but if Asus doesn't come up with at least GTX670M in their next iteration I'm switching sides and jump into Alienware wagon. Expensive fellas but at least I'll be able to maxout BF3 which is the main reason behind all this rant :D

The reason you see 460M and 560M on everything is because Asus buys them by the barrel to get good pricing. Instead of buying a a few 570m or 580m and a much higher cost/chip ratio, I was thinking of seeing if we can do a 560M SLI card. This way they can use components we already have, and just make a SLI breadboard with RAM.

Tho it is only an idea at this point, so don't go bugging anyone for one. :)

You know that's not a good idea in neither power, heat, size nor performance...

It would probably be actually cheaper and much better design-wise to just use a high-end chip at that point.

And for the love of god, USE MXM3.0b. Why does Asus choose to do such weird GPU designs I'll never know.
The opportunity to upgrade the GPU would increase sales too.
