Yep Green and Red had my screen pulled too forward. Guess I am wary of any vertical gray lines.

Anyways, shouldnt the Core clock be changable? I clicked apply and urrent value for GPU clock stays at 700 but Memory clock changes. Sorry if this is answered elsewhere.

Is there a guide written for setting up after the vBios install?

*** I just tried GPU-Z and the values there show being updated...but overdrive current values for the core is not updated...is that the same for everyone? ***

Yeah, should be red and green.

I made the same mistake. When you get into a 3d app (game) it'll kick in your custom clocks and overclock the GPU.

I purchased the $1200 model from Best Buy yesterday. Immediately after getting it, I just overwrote the old drivers with 10.6. I then after received two BSOD's. Once while playing aion (crysis engine), an another when watching a dvdrip in vlc player. Today I did quite a bit of gaming and movie watching and no BSOD. I can still take this system back to best buy... Should I? Would getting another help? Or is this problem systemic in all of these g73 systems?
Has it been confirmed this is a bios problem, basically is what I'm asking, and any suggested course of action if you were in my position.

Good to know. So the clocks and video test is working. Now after raising the GPU clocks do I up the voltage somehow or set a custom profile? Not clear on that.

It happens to most of us here. Seems like currently the solutions are either to use the stock drivers at Asus site or to flash the Vbios from this thread. I personally chose to flash it. Haven't had time to really test it but for not its working quite well. The next thing that causes crashes is the creative software. I just disable it from starting up where else others have chosen to uninstall it completely. There is a thread by Chasity about it.

I think I'll wait till more people report they've had long term success with the vBios option, right now I'm running stock bios, and I'm just keeping aion running to stress test.

just had another bsod, so like 1 in 12 hours.... again does anybody think taking it back and getting another unit will fix this particular issue?

Try going back to the stock drivers... Using updated reference drivers gives many of us gsod. There is a workaround by overclocking the graphic card. Setting it something like 705/1100. Take a look at the debugging thread just a few threads below this.

Ya I did, I just installed the vbios recommended here, so I hope that helps, but I also have to overclock to 705/1100?

Which drivers do you have installed? If it is the latest drivers from ATI, then u would have to try the overclock.

If you do not wish to overclock or flash the vbios, your best solution is to use the stock drivers that came with your G73. Which is the drivers that is available at the asus website. Not the ATI website.

I flashed to the vBios in this thread, and I'm running catalyst 10.6. I am using overdrive. When I select the memory clock value in overdrive and hit apply I -- see the change reflected in the bottom under: "Current Values", however the core clock speed seems unaffected. I switch it to 705, or 800 hit apply and no visable result is reflected in the Current Values section. Can anyone shed some light?

Yeah, thanks, sorry I didn't catch your previous reply, but I'm reading quite a few threads on this subject, lol. In any case, I'm now running v3 bios, 705/1000, and 10.6. Praying for ultimate stability or this beast goes back to best buy. However, I don't think it fixed the issue... I just tabbed into Aion and I can see artifacts around text. Artifacts are always a sign of instability, correct?

They can be. Or bad programming. I would exit out and come back in since you mentioned tabbing in and see if it still occurs. If so, I'd check out Aion forums and see if others mentioned it as an issue. There are some games that just don't play nice.

Had ATI 10.6 installed I ended up getting gsod with Dirt 2 and some screen flicker in NFS Shift. Uninstalled/Reinstalled latest Realtek drivers and went back to Asus disk for ATI VGA drivers.

Running Ziddy's vBios v3...with no ATI overclock 700/1000. Not sure on this yet. Power profile is on high performance.

So far all games no gsod or flicker...trying Bad Company right now...runs well.

gsod in about 2 hours of game playing, while loading crysis, running 10.6 ziddy v3, 705/1000. No idea what to do now.

If you want to OC for stability, you need to change the gpu memory timing. (The memory is what is causing the issues, not the GPU itself) Try 705/1100. This should help you out. You can also see my sig for a thread on the matter.

Any fixes known for the clocks getting stuck on 200/500 after a system resume?

It's annoying to reboot every time I want to launch something. Still much better than standard vbios, but if that was fixed this would be perfect.

Is there an operating temp I don't want to exceed? I'm getting around 75-83C. At 800/1100. Still have minor artifacts -- annoying.

also glyhx, That looks normal since you overclocked it a bit.

Sadly i installed L4d2 today, and even with the V3 and 705/1100 it still got gsod, had to resort back to the stock drivers. I hope asus actually does something about it..

At the moment yes, i've not tested bad company 2 long enough to know for sure. L4D2 gives way within minutes in the game. Creative drivers completely uninstalled. The weird thing is that in L4D2, my screen would go completely grey but i could use "alt + tab" and i'd get to the desktop saying the drivers had stopped. It would then work again then work for a few seconds in the game then hang again. Its very different from what happens in bad company 2. Reverting to the stock drivers fixed it for L4D2. I'll just settle with this for now. Hopefully once i'm bored of L4D2, there would be an official fix. When i have time i'll give the drivers a try.

I hope you have better luck compared to me. The stock drivers work perfect for it. I guess for a deal as good as the G73, there has to be flaws some where.

My driver setup was to first do a full install of the Asus 10.1 Mobility package, then I did an overlay of 10.6 Mobility of Driver and CCC. I've had my best results with this installation procedure.

many people in this forum seemed to have lots of trouble with dragon age and the PSOD I'm just trying to stress test since my PSOD is pretty rare, has only happened about 4 times in 3 days that I've owned it. I gotta make sure it's 100% before I let the 14 days pass by cause I'm stuck with it huge problems or not at that point.

I just did the vBios 3 posted by Ziddy and overclocked as you guys recommended: very stable i can say, haven't tried gaming properly though. What i wanted to solve with all of this was the freezing and restarting issue with GTA EFLC. Im stuck at some particular mission and i just cant pass it. Anyone with ideas?

By the way, infinite thanks to the guys who have worked so much for this cause, you guys are better than ASUS, period.

Few days back i mentioned i would get gsod within minutes into L4D2, i tried to just install 10.6 over the asus drivers, it didn't work as it kinda messed things up, my bc2 only had 15fps with that method. What i then did was a clean install of the Asus drivers, ran the 10.6 installer. When asked to "install/uninstall" i chose to uninstall. I then just installed the 10.6 again without doing any driver sweeper. Haven't had any GSOD so far. I'd expect it to come sooner or later but this is much more stable compared to before. I can at least play finish the campaign of L4D2. Running V3 700/1000

Killed my video on my G73. Good thing I did it within my return window, I'll either exchange it out if I feel like driving 2 hours to the closest store with one in stock, or just take the refund and buy the upgraded one next time instead of the Best Buy one.

It said it failed to flash, showed the size as being incorrect (0x20000 instead of 0xf2000 or something like that), so I tried flashing back to the original one I saved, but when I rebooted, nothing came up. The system's lights were on, but I had no output to the LCD or to VGA or HDMI monitors.

I used WinFlash (which I've never had issues with before), and the first link.

I've already picked up a G73JH-A2 from MWave for $1534. I'd have gone through XoticPC, but it said pre-order. There is no Microcenter around me.
