Does the warranty actually need to be activated? It says on the pamphlet provided we'll get an extra year's coverage if confirmed within 2 months of purchase.

My M1730's warranty never did anything of the like...

You need to activate it, yes. I did so online but didn't get the pamphlet since I got the BB version. I think you have to mail the form to them that's included.

You activate it online and if I remember correctly, you send proof of purchase via post with a printed e-mail to activate the accidental (I believe you link your account number or print off an e-mail with it and combine it with you receipt). Just make sure you register the letter b/c when I mailed my receipt to MSI, it magically disappeared (MSI and Asus have a similar mail in service for activation).

The 2 year global warranty does not need to be activated online, only the 1 year adw, right?

    That was underdtanding yes.
The ADW needs to be activated online and you send a proof of purchase.
I did it the week I received my G73, it's quite simple to do.

Same here but they never did confirm receipt of it and I have no idea whether I have the ADW coverage or not.

    Cheers,

Yeah, they don't always let you know. If you sent it registered, keep the receipt just in case. Or

So, you email Asus the electronic purchase receipt?
    .
What's the difference between 2 year global and 1 year accidental anyways

    2 Year Global:
If it breaks down anywhere in they world, the cover it.

    1 Year Accidental:
If for some reason you're gaming on your roof and on your way down you slip, causing the laptop to fly into your cement driveway and break into hundreds of little pieces, you get your system replaced (one claim per notebook).

So for the first year, you can be careless. For the second year, be careful, b/c if they find it's your fault on year #2, you'll get billed. For year #1, feel free to take it rock climbing, skiing, sailing, swimming ...you get the picture.
