I've had my g73jh since september and i'm enjoying it even after the freezes, lockups and gsod. But with all that sorted i've now started to have wireless problems. Until the last few days the wireless connection has been great but the Atheros AR9285 wireless network adapter keeps disconnecting. Its not my network as my wife has been using her notebook at the same time and hers has stayed connected. Is there any known problems with the wireless device on the g73.

some people are complaining that atheros AR9285 sucks but i can tell i am pretty satisfied with it
try latest driver from here

I've not had a problem with it at all untill the last few days. I sit at a desk with it most of the time so at the moment i've connected to my router by cable.

It's possible you are getting disconnected when she's on. Her wifi is pwning yours.

What brand and model router are you using? If it is D-Link, that's your problem.

My missus is mostly on when i'm on and its never diconnected before and my router is a netgear WGT624 v4. I ran my internet to my g73 via lan cable last night and it never diconnected once so the router is fine and the wife was on her facebook account via wireless and it never dropped once.

Maybe you have to update your Wireless driver or reinstall the current driver (might have been corrupted)? What about trying a different router to diagnose the real problem? My G73JH is equipped with Atheros too but mine is working good.

I have the Atheros card in mine as well and I find it does drop my connection once in a while. It happens once or twice every couple of days, maybe not even. Most of the time I am about 10 feet away from my wireless router. I am not sure if it is the card's fault, I suspect it is, the other wireless connections in the house are fine.
I want to update to the Intel 6200, but I need to find a Canadian supplier. The cost to ship it out of the US or from offshore is more than the card is worth. If someone knows where I can get one in Canada please chime in. -
I have the Atheros card too, and once in a while, I get a BSOD linked to athryx.sys.
Googling athryx.sys BSOD Win 7 shows that its not exactly uncommon, heh. Happens on quite alot of brands, not just Asus. I'd upgrade to the Intel cards in a heartbeat if I had the time. Looking to get one soonish anyway via Amazon.
That said though, the new driver set in Chastity's thread of driver resources seems to have solved it somewhat. I've been quite stable so far. Haven't had a BSOD in about a week, but that's not saying much. The BSODs were pretty random even before I updated the drivers. -
Well my wifes laptop is also doing it. It can't be my internet itself as since i have connected my g73 to the router via lan cable it has not dropped once even when the wifes has. Do you think this could be a router problem.

Hello,
If you live in an environment where there are other wireless routers the issue could be that the wireless communications are occurring on the same Channel.
I've seen this in my location where there are a lot of netgear routers in the area. All of which are configured by default to a specific channel.
I use a program called inSSIDer to do a channel sweep (among other things) to verify if my wireless router is RX/TX on the same channel as one of my neighbors. If so I manually change the channel on my router and the issues seemed to be resolved.

I downloaded inSSIDer and used that but it shows no other networks in my area only mine and thats strange as there are at least 3 or 4 others around my area. Even if i look in wireless connections at the bottom right of the windows tool bar there are none but mine. I'm sure all 4 people around my area have turned there routers off and even on my wifes laptop there are no other networks in range. Any suggestions.
