It is possible to replace the Atheros wifi with intel 4965AGN? Because I have one of them home and it is much much better than Atheros. But it has 3 antenas and G73 has only two.

You could always obtain a 3rd antenna and run it alongside the other two once you take apart the laptop.

Perhaps when I have a service center (since I'm too chicken to do it myself) take main apart to re-paste I'll have them add the third antenna for my Intel 6300N.

    Cheers,

Just installed my 6200 last night. Couldn't connect at more than 65mbit (even with the router 10 feet away). I then enabled WMM in the device properties and now I'm locked at 150. What do you guys think I need to do to connect at 300?

What's the model number of the router? At some locations I visit their equipment is limited to 54g or 150 while others handle 300 or 450 (but since I'm only using 2 of 3 antennas I never get more than 300.

    Cheers,

2.4 but allegedly it'll do max 300, at least per the settings page.

The stock wifi in the G73 is absolute crap..... it is slowly dying and getting worse and worse.... now it's at a point that it can barely connect to any network!
Intel N6200 is on the way - can't wait to be ridded of the atheros crap!

I was doing fine with the Atheros, but I had a chance to get the Intel N6200 so I figured what a heck. Easier than a repasting which is what I really need ;-)

the N6200 works very well, but I have not had a situation where I found it much different than the Atheros. It does seem to be more sensitive.

It's a fake, I bought a atheros 9287 from ebay and I had the same exact problems no driver would work and trying it on different laptops produced the same error.

Yeah, it's a fake. I had the same issue with a 6200 I had bought from eBay.

Third antenna I bought is a dual band and shorter (wasn't long enough to run up inside the LCD panel so I ran it inside right hand corner next to the keyboard.I did contact the seller last night and he told me he would refund my money or send me a 6200 that should work.I'm getting the refund and I did order a real one from AntOnline.com this morning.

    Laptop_pop?

I bought my 6300 from him as well, and mine works perfectly. And I paid under 30$ for it! A steal!

And now a question about the new antenna. Is it "required" to open up the laptop fully, instead of just opening up the service panel and putting the antenna in there somewhere? I ordered a pair of antennas and I really don't want to take everything apart a third time.

Well he does have a good rep.fast service I just got a bad one, could have happened buying from anyone. As far as the antenna goes I was half tempted just to lay it in under the service panel and tape it down. But if it was as long as the other two I would have ran along side them into the LCD panel

Just joining the ranks to say that I too am having major issues with Atheros Wifi, the DPC latency on mine is so bad that I literally can't watch a video file while the Wifi is turned on without the audio stuttering. It's good to know I'm not alone!

man i'm getting random spikes with my AR9825 as well.. when it spikes, i get upwards of 100ms - 200ms latency. really annoyed, sigh.. latest driver doesn't seem to help either.

edit: can anyone tell me if this card can work with G73 ?

I did an intel 6300 in my g73j, and just bought an antenna that had a narrow antenna chip at the end and had double sided sticky on it and stuck it on the opposite side of the slot of the card, I get constant 270mbps from my wrt600n and 300mbps from my wndr3700 at the furthest point of my home, fluctuated from 108mbs - 230mbps before the third antenna

this is the one i bought: Apple MacBook Pro Mac Mini pci-e wifi Antenna U.LF on eBay.ca (item 180499690181 end time 22-Dec-10 22:59:39 EST)
fits perfectly on the end of the pcie slot

Hello everyone, this is my first post, so don’t be too hard on me.
I read the whole thread, and still could not make up my mind about what I should do.
I just bought G73JW-xa1 model and not the most tech person out there.
    1. Can someone verify that my model has only to antennas?
    2. I don’t think I can open up computer to install a third antenna if there is only 2 installed, then should I still buy Intel 6300 and just connect it or Intel 6200?
    3. Is there any benefit to Intel 6300 over 6200 is it is connected only to 2 antennas and is it worth it?
Thank you very much, really hope you can help me make my mind up.

If you get the 6300, you can always add a 3rd antennae later, and doesn't cost much more than the 6200.

So my router is giving up the ghost (doesn't pull an IP reliably from Comcast anymore), and I decided to replace it with an ASUS Dual-N with all the trimmings earlier, as the Netgear WNDR3800 isn't out until June.

As long as I was doing that, I decided to check what mini-pci you guy were buying for your G73JH's, and I'm glad I checked! Good thread everybody!!! :)

Having replaced a wireless adapter in my Dell Inspiron 9400 with Nvidia 7800 Go video card, but not wanting to take the ENTIRE laptop apart for the 3rd wire, I did EXACTLY what you did Krazy, just mounting it in the card slot/door/whatever. And your post convinced me to order the Apple antenna from the same source on Ebay. ;)

So I'm a 6300 away from having what I need to upgrade my internal networking completely! Nice to know it will be done soon. Thanks again everybody!!!

I've just instaled the intel n 6200 wireless card and i must say it is a great improvement, i never thought it would work so much better as the atheros. Now i'm just waitting for the ssd.
