Hey everyone,
I've had my G53JW for about a month now and I'm not an audio enthusiast so I never looked into this before. But today I was wondering what sound card I have on this laptop so I looked at the device manager and the control panel and I seem to have 2 things listed:
- Realtek HD audio
- Nvidia HD audio
My question is: what's the difference between these two? I've never come across nvidia in the realm of audio before so this kind of surprised me.
Also, what's with all those other features like EAX HD 5.0, THX? I really don't know much at all about audio but I want to learn so I know what kind of speakers or headset to buy in the future![]()
Thanks all.

Realtek HD audio - Your onboard sound card gives you the audio to your speakers and to your headphone jack.
Nvidia HD audio - The sound chip probably with your GPU, I assume your laptop probably has a HDMI output, so the video card has its own sound chip so it can give you audio from its HDMI output.
Its common on desktop cards because the soundcard is the direct output of your video, Its now becoming standard to have it on mobile GPU's as well like you find on the desktop versions of the cards.
Audio question: What sound card on my G53JW? Realtek? Nvidia?
