So in a effort of getting some numbers about Asus failure rates for these laptops and to see if over time the common problems they have are being fixed at the factory or if Q.C. has been improved i posted a threat on their forums asking for users who have problems like black lines in the screen, GPU problems etc. to post the model number, date of purchase and the problem. In no time i got a nice message from Asus saying they were censoring it and it was deleted. So we will never know if the problems are series wide or very from model to model.
So it looks like the G55's and G75's have a much higher failure rate then i thought and Asus is trying to keep the lid on this.
On a side note one use reported that his laptop was at the repair center for a month waiting on a motherboard and GPU because they were out of stock on them. Did not think of anything about it until now so it looks like these things have a very high failure rate.
And last but not least. One user got 5 defective G75's in a row. All the same model, all had the same problem however the serial numbers and windows COA serials numbers were not the same on the useing so they were replacing the unit they were all having black lines in the screen and bad arafacting.
Personally i have used a G75 heavily and heavily overclocked for over a month and never had one problem with it what so ever. G75VW-BBK5 Also used the G55 from best buy to and never had any problems with that either. So i will say the two i used ran perfect.

I read your thread over at the ROG forums, and I can see it was a nice attempt at keeping a record of these little issues. At the same time I can see why ASUS deleted the thread. Stupid people panic for absolutely no reason, and let's be honest, there's a lot of stupid people out there.
I can see that they most likely deleted your thread in fear of hurt sales from regular Joe Smoe out there reading it and misinterpreting it and then deciding not to buy the notebook. All because the thread sounds like a witch hunt to them.
Every notebook has it's problems, some worse than others. The G75 is no exception, and le's be honest, the black lines issue is so minor and people are throwing it out of proportion. There's a problem with how the G75 handles the LCD panel causing it to produce these lines on very dark gradients. It will most likely be fixed or at the very least partially fixed (made almost unoticeable) with future nVidia drivers.
The dead pixels the other usher suffered on 3 desperate G75 units is just plain old bad luck and he's just lashing out ina fit of nerd rage. Dead pixels can happen on any electronic that has an LCD panel. It is what it is.
And if people were serious about their work, they wouldn't be buying a gaming laptop to do work on.
No offense, but I think your just exaggerating a bit. -
Also, don't forget that forums can blow minor issues out of proportion. That being said, Asus has a recent track record at Q.C. that is rather mediocre. One batch of G73JH had a loose heatsink screw, newegg got a batch of DoA G53s (Asus or shipping, i don't know), the zenbook primes suffer form QC issues (there are two many complaints on NBR for it to be the usual forum complaints). It wouldn't surprise me that much if there was a bad batch of G75 out there, but i haven't really seen that amny complaints on NBR to point that way though.

My g75 works like a dream. You post about problems your not even having. What solution or alternative are you offering people? None because that's not the kind of guy you are. I had a fairly recent MSI gamer and it didn't last 2 weeks before it started falling apart and major problems. It ran very well though. I had the newest Samsung gamer. It is built great but that machine is programed by retards. It is so slow to boot even with a blazing fast ssd and if you have problems with software or crashes good luck because it is going to be hard as hell. I don't feel like getting robbed from dell for a style I would hate and I don't want all the trouble of getting a Sager that I won't really like anyway. I can find a store in Timbuctoo that sells the g75 and it is the least expensive, smooth running and well thought out gaming laptop available. If you bought a lemon you will probably figure it out quick enough to bring it in and get a replacement.

bignaz, I admire your efforts and the censorship reminds me why I stop posting there. I have lost faith in the ASUS gaming line for a plethora of reasons and will probably buy a Clevo next time around .
I was an early adopter of the G73JH and just off the top of my head:
1. Fn ESC locked the machine --- Quality control are you kidding me that no one tested that ??
2. VBIOS issues that were solved eventually - unless you called Asus support who told you to do an F9 restore
3. They had a forum 2 year ago at Asus.com for laptop that disappeared
4. Touch pad issues out of the box for many users
5. Missed keystrokes on the horrible KB.
6. No RAID option in BIOS -
..pretty sure the hm55 chipset doesn't have a raid controller.
-
Asus G55 does not have RAID.
Asus G75 does have RAID option in BIOS. -
My G75 came with problems. And there are still some problems but at this point they're only minor annoyances.
One crippling problem straight out of the box was the audio issue where sound would come out of the speakers despite me having an occupied headphone jack. Updating audio drivers to a new beta release fixed this. Also the build-in Power4Gear system where ASUS implements their own power modes screws around with your power settings. Uninstalling Power4Gear fixes that.
Minor annoyances include Bluray drive flipping out for a sec when I plug something into the USB drive above it. And sometimes the HDD goes inactive if not used and it has to wind up for a second before I can view stuff in it.
Overall it came out of the box with more problems than the G73. However they were all easily remedied (so far anyway), whereas the G73 required some know-how to work around. And ofcourse updating Nvidia drivers is a much less daunting task than updating the ATI ones. Cooling also seems to be doing better, outgoing air seems pretty hot but laptop remains at very good temperatures. So you do have to leave some room behind your G75 to allow air to move. -
P4G can indeed mess with windows default power settings, the audio driver issue is most definitely a fail from Asus, blu-ray issue is weird. -
My girlfriend got a g75, and I gotta say, there's been times it's seemed to work better than my desktop.. which is sad cause I spent a lot on it haha.
I'm really interested in getting one myself, and TBH i've heard a lot of good things -
If you can deal with some minor annoyances and coming here/ROG forums a lot get one. Beastly performance even without OC. -
If Asus can sell the G75 for $1500 with the GTX 675MX, then it would be tempting. But since it won't even have the option for the GTX 675MX, and charge far more for the 670MX, then I would not consider this notebook. Might as well get an Alienware at the price Asus is charging. Sager/Clevo is the way to go this round.
Maybe next year Asus will offer a better performance/price machine with more options. -
Or the MSI with 680m for about 1500$ is what I'm drooling over.
Avoid the G55's/G75's
