So I'm planning to buy the Best Buy version of G73. Since it's more economical for me, compared to $1500 fully equipped G73. Only question is, is the monitor resolution for BB version THAT terrible? Having 2GB less Ram is not the issue for me, since 6GB is more than enough for my gaming laptop.

Look at the floor model and decide for yourself. I didn't care for it, tho others are quite happy with it. If viewing angles are an issue for you (like if you share watching videos / movies) or collaborate on work with someone and you don't use an external monitor, then yeah, the screen can be an issue.
Of course, if you have some savvy, you can replace the screen at a future time by buying a new panel. -
The monitor resolution on the BB model is quite nice, 1600x900 is rather nice. The -A2 version I have came with the DPI increased so even though it's 1080p, it appears the same as 1600x900...
Also, if you can't afford the more expensive model, you can't afford it. *shrugs* no need to worry about things that are out of your control. -
1600x900 is plenty for a 17 inch screen. You won't notice it unless you literally use the laptop with your nose touching the screen.
It will run games faster with a lower resolution as well (with similar settings).
However, if you need more space for doing graphic design/work/etc then the larger resolution will be useful. Otherwise it really won't make a difference to you. -
the screen of g73 from BB is nice.. im fine with it.. and playing games on it is awsome... go to the nearest bb store on your place and see it by urself...

If you do decide to go look at the screen make sure you check out the 2 variants before making your purchase. There are 2 different screens the Auo & the LG Phillips. I personally recommend the LG Phillips.

I think my G73 from Best Buy looks great at 1600x900. I have an LG screen, though. Can't comment on the AUO.

another happy user of BB G73JH. so far I haven't gotten close to 6GB even with couple of VMs or any of my CS5 projects, so I didn't bother upgrading. got quite lucky here - 1333MHz RAM and LG screen plus no GSODs with any catalysts, even OC'd. IMO screen is decent - it's bright, has nice colors and 1600*900 is plenty even for two windows opened side-to-side..and just in case there is 22" HP LCD right next to my beast
only two problems with screen are:
* black is actually dark gray (but it seems to be the case with majority of WLED screens..)
*vertical viewing angles are pretty bad, especially when viewing from above

If the LCD in the G73 is anything like my previous G72 (which Im sure its the same model...same res. and LED back lit) then its a pretty so-so LCD. Colors arent bad, deep contrast levels are almost non-existent (deep deep gray, but NOT black) and viewing angles are below decent unless you are looking at it straight on and not at any kind of angle.
For gaming though its OK. Colors are decent if not a tad drab and the LCD performs and looks much better in bright colorful games...you can forget about dark games (like FEAR and those types of dark atmosphere games)...
Over all compared to whats out there for mid-priced laptops its pretty good though...I mean, its not RGBLED or anything, but it gets the job done...just be prepared to sit directly eye to eye with the screen and dont move in any direction that off set you from being at a complete or near to 0 degree angle from the screen.
