I bought a wireless Xbox controller for my PC. It comes with a Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories 1.2 disk. The computer can't read it.

I've tried the disk on another computer and it was fine.

I think this may be the first time I've tried to use the disk reader/writer, but I don't remember.

I'm wondering if I need a specific driver for my drive (and where I can get it -- tried the Asus site but couldn't find an HD disk driver link), or is my drive DOA?

My current drive reads as follows in Windows 7:
    Slimtype BD E DS4E1S

With Blu-Ray drives, there are two lasers equipped on the players.

Have you tried other discs in the drive? Check to see if it will register and read other regular discs or DVDs first and if it doesn't read those, then try a Blu-Ray disc to see if it reads that.

This may help you to determine if the lasers have failed or if it is the drive itself or some sort of software issue.

It's also possible that the lens is just dirty, you could wipe it with a microfiber cloth and see if it helps.

I've got a G73JH and a G73Sw and neither one of them will read a DVD. They used to do it just fine, now they wont at all. They spool up and the laser moves around, I've cleaned the lens off good. I think its about time for me to move away from Asus notebooks.

Did you try anything besides cleaning the lens?

    Thanks for help!
I did try all of possible software solutions and ended up cleaning the lens with alcohol but non of that worked in my case. I believe it might be some hardware issue! I am away from US and cant go for RMA at this moment. I guess i will have to live with it till i dont push myself and perform clean install as an ultimate try to make it work.
    Again thanks for help!

    Thanks,

Just tried again with a different DVD (no go), then remembered this thread. I will try the software solutions first. It's probably because of jammed up dirt. Ugh!

(If you were wondering what happened with my original dilemma: I downloaded the software from Microsoft instead.)
