The Sony Optiarc BD-5730S Slim 6x Blu-ray Disc Writer is sold in a shop near me for £111 so i may go out tomorrow to buy it. Just needed to know if there are fitting problems.

I think the LG ct21n dont burn BD-rom. I believe most of 12.7mm internal drive will fit the g73jh. You just need to remove the bezel and faceplate on your old drive and put it on the new drive. The installation is very simple, you just have to take out 3 screw and swap the drive.

Be very careful of those LG "CT" units... especially the OEM ones. I bought one and now have a paperweight. A lot of them don't have the proper firmware for playing current blu-ray movies. There is no firmware available for them either. Mine would read blu-rays just fine but wouldn't play movies without breaking the copy protection.

A very kind fellow here pointed me to a used Sony OptiArc which works flawlessly. I couldn't get the company that sold it to respond to emails and was unable to get a refund on the one I bought. Just a word of caution for my friends here. :(

    hmmm, well I was thinking of getting the lg ct21n Newegg.com - LG Black 8X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 6X BD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA Internal Blu-ray Super-Multi Combo DriveModel CT21N - Blu-Ray Drives

but you mentioned the sony, newegg has it here
    Newegg.com - Sony Optiarc Black 4X BD-ROM 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-ROM SATA Slim Internal 12.7mm Tray Blu-ray COMBO Model BC-5500H-01 - Blu-Ray Drives

and not that much more, seems to be better. Worth the upgrade in $$??
and how hard is it t swap out drive covers?

and a review for CON says. " It reads very, very few Bluray discs. I've tried updating the firmware that Sony "released" for the drive but it doesn't work. I've never been able to get a single BR disc to play on this drive."

how can a drive not read br discs when thats what its made for?

I believe I bought one of each. My LG came from a rotten company called eeshops or some such. It doesn't play blu-ray movies. There are no firmware updates for it. It will read blu-ray disks if you happen to have a stack of data disks you need read.

The Sony OptiArc works flawlessly. There are easily obtainable firmware updates right on Sony's website. I highly recommend staying away from the LG. There are some LG CT models with the correct firmware and some without. They ALL have a sticker on them stating they have the "good" firmware but half of them really have a different firmware that will not work. Only order it if you are feeling especially lucky and make sure you can return it if it doesn't work which it probably won't.

I brought the The Sony Optiarc BD-5730S Slim 6x Blu-ray Disc Writer this morning and it was easy to fit in the g73 and played every blu-ray move i put in. Highly recommend this drive. I've put my old writer in a caddy for spare.
