Less than 3 months since its introduction, the retailer BEST BUY, the ONLY retailer, has discontinued the ASUS G73JH-RBBX05!!! Call Best Buy toll-free.

    WHY??

    :confused2:
Other posts on internet sites mention troubles getting tech support from ASUS, and now this...... Whats going on suddenly with all this?
I am a real fan of their laptops, but this worries me.

LOL ..... And while I'm at it, why so many different suffixes on their models, like A1, X1, A1B, X2, A2B, JC, JT, VF, an VT????? WOW, now THAT is alot of model suffixes. They must have to reprint alot of inventory and tech bulletins. :twitchy:

    Gimme a break.

    1. Even if they have discontinued this model (where's your links or proof?) that has nothing to do with the model as a whole.

    2. ASUS is notorious for creating tons of different model #'s. Just look at their Eee pc's. This means nothing for the health of the line.

    3. This thread reads like FUD- do either of you own a G73? Just got done playing a little Crysis on mine just to test the 10.5 CATS and it works great.

3 months is the normal life cycle of a computer at Best Buy. Many cheaper, more mainstream computers last less than month.

Exactly. The lifespan of a computer model isn't very long. I'm sure there will be another similar mode there to pick up where it left off. I just looked outside and the sky isn't falling.

I was at the Best Buy in Middletown, NY, and the G73 is still on display there, and for sale.

All the G73's are not available in Austin TX and are not available for shipping...sounds like they're being discontinued to me.

While checking out the M11x at Bestbuy I talked to several employees who told me that they received a notice from corporate to remove all G73 inventory including the demos.

2 days before that they had at least 8 in stock and a demo on display. Now...nothing.

What's strange is that they still carry the G72GX and G60JX. It must have something to do with a refresh or excessive complaints......who knows such things?

There's a thread with release notes- not much for us, honestly.

Nothing- you can't buy it anymore. Best Buy may have been eating too many returns on it and it ate into their profit margin for the laptop. Still means nothing for ASUS or the model as a whole.

I highly doubt the discontinuity is due to the returns received from the laptop. A more likely reason why Best Buy has discontinued the X05 SKU is because of the lack in supply of the G73 units in general. Seeing how even resellers whom are selling the full G73 versions at higher prices are often out of stock, it's only logical and good business practice to manufacture more high end units which can be sold at a higher price when you have such a high demand and low supply.

Another reasonable and possible explanation is that the G73JH series is starting to be phased out to make way of the new refresh models.

They did not sell nearly as well. Perhaps they had/have a whole bunch of those. I remember they cost $1199 once upon a time and now are $799 refurb and $999 new. Not bad for a very powerful machine.

    Cheers,

    *** NOT TRUE ***
I just bought a ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 yesterday July 30. 2010 at Best Buy in New Hamshire. I even talked to the Computer Salesperson about your post, they didn't hear anything about the discontinue of the ASUS G73JH-RBBX05. You can also buy this Labtop at their Website. I bought mine in the Store for $1180.00 and a 3-Year Accidental Protection Plan for $449.99 (only sold at the store, but a must have for any Electronics).

Today is July 31. 2010, you posted on 06-05-2010, 06:52 PM, that was 8 weeks ago. Don't you think if any of that is true, it would have been done by now. It shows only, that you can't believe everything you hear, see or read on the Internet. ;)

I only have my ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 for one day, but I tried all night different things on it (which other people have had complaint about). Sofar I can say I love this Laptop and I am very happy with this Product I bought at BEST BUY. My ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 runs perfect. The only thing I would have a complain about is the Manual, not enough information.
