Hi, I have a g73jh running BIOS version 209. I screwed up my windows installation and need to boot from a flash drive. However, when I try to change the boot order in the bios settings, everything is disabled. On the main bios screen, I am running with access privilege "user". Nobody else uses this laptop, so how could I not have administrator access?

Here are two screenshots of the relevant screens:

    Main screen
    Boot screen

Any help is very much appreciated!

Have you tried just using the ESC key during boot to get the boot device menu instead of going through all that BIOS boot settings stuff?

Do you have security password(s) set in BIOS? If so, do you have both administrator and user passwords set or just one or the other?

I originally had just the user BIOS password set. (The one that requires you to enter a password each time the computer is started.) Everything is disabled on the security BIOS screen as well, except for changing the password. I tried removing the password by leaving the new password field blank but the password box still comes up when I turn on the computer.

It seems like the BIOS thinks I don't have sufficient privileges to modify it for some strange reason...

Also, pressing esc brings me to the windows boot manager, with the only option being to boot Windows 7 or run the memory diagnostics.

There are two levels of passwords, one is User, and one is Administrator. You must have an administrator password set, because if just User is set you get Administrator privileges in the BIOS setup utility. The password you enter when you are prompted determines your security level.

Unfortunately, I have to close this thread since we have a policy in the forum rules that prohibits discussion of circumventing security measures, and this includes CMOS passwords. Good luck.
