I'm sure this has been discussed before, but hopefully people won't be annoyed...
I've got the A1 model that comes with a backback. It's a Targus, and...it's okay, but the computer just barely fits in. It's a pain to shove it in, and even a bit annoying to pull out, and I don't have a ton of extra sapce in it.
I have an awesome LL Bean backpack I used for my 14" Asus N80, which is both better padded, much more rugged (this Targus is starting to come apart just from going through the wash...) and has easily 2x or more the space for extra stuff besides the notebook, but it's not wide enough for the G74.
Are there any other options? I've heard people talk about the Targus XL backpack... I'd assumed that was what it came with, but actually in pictures it looks different. Maybe it fits the notebook (and extra junk) better?
Hey, I can't "only" have my G74, I've got to have my PSP and/or DS with me tooCan't have enough games

Picked up a Targus XL Backpack just today for B & H for $52 (including tax). I have an older 17 inch Targus bag, which my G73 barely fits into, but I use it to carry my M11x. Was literally able to place my old Targus bag into the new Targus XL Bag (Not in the Laptop compartment though.
My g73 fits in it nicely. From my research I ve read people with 18.4 inch lappies having no issues with the bag.
Just a Few User Pics from off the web. Room for your G74 and a whole lot more. In the 1st pic, the User claims to carry ALL the contents on the Table/Desk in his bag.

I was about to buy a Targus XL but then I realized it's got this weird open compartment in front, with straps to keep it shut (no zipper).. so that one is off my list.
If you search the forums you will find several long threads with backpack ideas & suggestions, many with pictures. -
@ Groo39, I noticed the front "open" compartment and was turned off a bit, but realized it had more than enough "other" compartments for my needs, so I purchased it anyway.
-
Any idea what that is meant for? Maybe I just lack vision
-
I noticed that too, and I have no idea what it is for. In fact, I haven't even used it yet. I don't understand why you would put anything in there when it doesn't have a zipper.

I can't figure out from the pictures where this open compartment is...that sounds weird!
Good to hear the G73 fits though, as at worst it's maybe 0.5cm smaller in all dimensions (although I wonder if Asus just rounded differently in their spec sheets and they're actually the same size).
So this fits without having to force it? I really have to work to get my G74 into the free bag it came with. I have to use both hands, start "threading it in", pulling down on the bag, etc...must take me a minute or two to do it, and it's just not pleasant.
I want to just throw the G74 in and go in a split second, like I can with my LL Bean bag and my 14" N80!
Hopefully edskii doesn't mind me mentioning that s/he mentioned this Everki Beacon case to me.
It CLAIMS it holds up to an 18" notebook PLUS a game console, but I checked out reviews, and someone on Amazon explicitly mentions that their G74 doesn't fit...so...I'm assuming that's out.
This Targus XL is literally the only other case I know about right now that might work! -
You can see it here: second compartment from the left: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51DKTVP0PVL.jpg
Last week I noticed Target is selling the Targus CityGear backpack, which is very similar to the XL. It has the same strange compartment though: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61g6D71x8PL._AA1001_.jpg
It's a bit more expensive at target but I was thinking it would be easier to take back if I don't like it. -
Well, I went ahead an ordered a Targus XL since I can't seem to find anything else! It might be the only thing out there for these larger notebooks.
I still say this thing is 100% portable though-I honestly have no more issue with moving it than my nearly-unused Macbook Air, and I'm clueless why people even act like *15"* notebooks are "hard to move around". It's like the G74 weighs almost nothing. I sure can't tell any difference when it's on my back from my 13 or 14" notebooks... -
My G74 comes with a bagpack ( wich i suppose is the same as you ) , but it's not that hard to fit in. I'm sure i can put another laptop in it after my G74 , and it's not annoying to pull out ...
I'm a bit surprised i must say -
I mean the one I got, the...I guess you'd say "depth" of the system that's 12" or whatever, when you put it in, it's really a tight squeeze, and tough to get in and out. Then the width of the system...you have to sort of pull the bag's top over the system before zippering.
And then I'd have to replace it anyway because the zipper's already broken (like days ago).
I really wish LL Bean made a big enough bag... MUCH better reliability and padding, etc., and all the other compartments are bigger, it's just not big enough for larger notebooks
Still waiting on my Targus XL... I hope it works! -
Oh i also got to " pull the bag top " , but it's not that bad. If you fit in in the very last slot ( the one made for the laptop , with the " scratch " thing you can close ) , it fits really well.
I put my laptop everyday in it , Nostromo / Mouse / Goliathus XXL and Power cord , no problem
Backpack/case for the G74?
