    Hey all,

I got my laptop less than 6 months ago. I'm usually on AC power but recently noticed that my charge is stuck on 65% (plugged in, not charging). If I remove the AC the laptop shuts down completely without warning. HWiNFO32 displays the following:

    Designed Capacity: 78000 mWh
    Full Charged Capacity: 56745 mWh
    Wear Level: 27.3%

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yeah it sounds like your battery is either dying or has a bad chip. It could also be your battery circuit, but let's hope not.

It may be powering off instantly because windows sees a critical battery and shuts off. If it powers off instantly without windows shutting down, that may be a real problem. You can try booting into the BIOS setup and just leaving it there on battery power. If the battery has any charge, let it run until it dies. That may reset the data on the battery and allow the 'battery gauge' to give a correct reading. If it powers off instantly in the BIOS, your battery probably has a physical problem and probably needs replacing. I think the ASUS battery warranty is 1 year if you bought it at retail or if it's the one that came with your computer.

That happened to me before (but in my case still charging). I'm quite sure that my battery wear level is just on the range of 6-8% then suddenly became 24%. I did what ALLurGroceries have advised you but just make sure that you drain your battery slowly by using battery saving mode until you're computer powers off (so that you don't heat up your battery fast). After draining the battery I charged the battery up to 80-90% then the wear level became about 4%.
