If that happens to me I would be concerned. But sorry I don't know why that happened >_< let's wait for the other's suggestions.

Try this, unplug your laptop from the wall, remove your battery and turn on your laptop to remove charges that remained in your laptop >_< then reinsert your battery again and plug it.

Edit:NM i was not looking at what Yupitchie posted :D...

You can always flash an older bios and see if that fixes it or just flash the same bios again..

Thanks for the input yupitchie but no go :(

I dont know if this is relevant but i am still on my stock vbios 012.017.000.004.0359.A33G and stock ati catalyst drivers 9.12
I tried updating to 10.8 and immediately experienced GSOD's whilst playing, so i reverted back.

Okay i read what you typed before the edit Quadzilla and this is what i did.

Turned it off completely, unplugged from the AC, removed the battery and kept holding the power key for a good minute after that kept it for another minute or two before inserting the battery and turning it on after it booted in windows i plugged it in and now it shows 99% plugged and charging(so ofcourse the LED is orange) but i am pretty sure it will stay that way.

I guess ill try flashing it again.

    Thanks guys.

You may also to try using it on battery and let it drain, then recharge it.

Yup, last month my battery power stayed at 95% and it never goes up even when plugged, but then, it came back to normal.

I hope your battery will get fixed soon, it's pretty annoying seeing something that is not right.

Thanks for the replies guys...ill try what chastity said....draining it out right now...sorry for the paranoia, its not even a week old...but plays C&C Red Alert 2 and SCII on ultra w/o any modding or new drivers.

Pretty solid notebook just need the quirks to work out..

Good luck with that. But don't worry, it's a common phenomenon on every notebook, not just this one. From every brand/OEM.

Could also give resetting the BIOS a go. There is a little hole on the bottom next to the access panel, paper clip sized.

Otherwise, draining and recharging is probably the best idea.

Also, check the GSOD thread for info on how to update drivers without blowing up.

Tried draining the battery and charging it again...no change.

Reverted back to 209...now its stuck at 98% going to drain it again and fully charged it. :|

Did the color change back to normal? Don't worry about the percentage of the battery sometimes it's like that, not 100% but at least you have a green LED when plugged.

The G73 will stop charging at a point after 95% in an attempt to prolong the life of the battery...its weird I know. If you unplug it and let it drop below 95 and plug in it should charge to 100%

I second this issue. It happens rather randomly. It's not a big deal to me though. I'm actually currently stuck at 94%.

Not worried about the percentage stucking up just the orange LED :(

Guys what do you recommend ? having 211 Bios and new beta vBios and update to catalyst 10.8 or keep the things as it is as long it is working.

Why are you worried about the orange LED? Throwing off your color scheme? Use a black magic marker :-D

I don't mind the orange light its just what it represents...i mean i don't know if my motherboard is properly detecting my battery or not.

i do have the power4gear installed and i reverted back from 211 to 209 to check if it made any difference to it, but it didnt change a thing.

I am not a battery expert, but I do know that modern lithium batteries on laptops have micro-controllers built-in. They "request" charging and report their condition to the motherboard. I would be worried too if my battery was constantly requesting a charge since it will be hard on the power supply. Maybe you should call Asus and see if they will RMA your battery? Maybe after you go through all the troubleshooting steps with them, they will agree to cross ship one to you?

The orange versus green LED on most laptops is not software driven... at least it's not driven by software you install or even the BIOS. The battery controls that so if it's staying orange, the battery is not right.

If it were me, I'd call Asus. Laptop batteries do store enough power to cause a fire if they fail catastrophically so I would try to address it. At minimum I wouldn't leave it laying around plugged into the wall charging that battery unattended.

I'm not trying to be an alarmist. It's probably nothing. I'm just saying batteries can do bad things on very rare occasion so I would do something rather than nothing.
